Discover Älmhult
Accommodation in Älmhult
Älmhult brings together a range of themes for a stay: the IKEA Museum focuses on IKEA’s history, while art, culture and leisure add further highlights. For your planning, it’s worth comparing the themes: would you like to explore the museum, a cultural offering, or swimming and leisure?
IKEA history at the museum
The IKEA Museum in Älmhult presents “Berättelsen om IKEA” as well as many other inspiring exhibitions and events. The main exhibition consists of four parts: “Våra rötter”, “Demokratisk Design”, “IKEA genom tiderna” and “Hej Ingvar!”. Together, these themes range from IKEA’s roots and democratic design to the history of IKEA and the “Hej Ingvar!” section. The main exhibition is thus clearly divided into individual themes, while further exhibitions and events offer additional museum content. The museum offers open tours with knowledgeable guides for individual visitors and small groups; the tours are included in the admission price.
Art and culture in town
Älmhult Art Center is centrally located in Älmhult, right next to the railway station. Folkets hus offers cinema and cultural events in a bistro atmosphere. These two offerings have different focuses: Art Center is dedicated to art, while Folkets hus offers films and a cultural programme. The centre of the railway community of Älmhult has been designated by the Swedish state as being of national interest for cultural heritage conservation. So, if you’re interested in Älmhult’s cultural profile, the town centre itself is also worth considering, alongside individual cultural institutions. Carl Eldh’s Linné statue looks out over the square in Älmhult from its elevated position. The library hosts various activities and events throughout the year. For independent exploration, you can also experience “Lyssna på Älmhult” as a self-guided walking or cycling tour.
Swimming and other leisure activities
Haganäsbadet offers swimming, sauna and training. Its facilities include a 25-metre training pool and an adjustable-height multipurpose pool, as well as a whirlpool and a smaller children’s area. The two pools therefore differ both in their expressly stated length and in their adjustable height. There are also various activities and classes, including water aerobics and front crawl swimming. When planning, you can weigh up the different pools and classes as specific options.
Another leisure option is the disc golf course in the Haganäs recreation area. Blendas backe is an edible park. The themed “Huset” playground in Stortorget is accessible. Orange posts mark the Majtorpsrundan.
Getting here and finding your way around
Älmhult is accessible by train, car and bus; these three modes of transport give you several ways to plan your journey. The tourist information office is staffed year-round and is located at Stortorget 1.
