Discover Gullringen: Nature, Attractions and History
Accommodation in Gullringen
Gullringen offers nature trails, a bathing area with distinctive jetties, and a local history closely linked to railway construction. Two different distance details are useful for planning: the Sme-åna nature trail is a four-kilometre circular route, while the approximately 150 metres refers to the walk from the car park to the Dammen bathing area. This makes it easy to consider the hike and access to the water as separate parts of a stay.
Hiking and Landscape
The Sme-åna nature trail is a well-marked circular nature trail around Vervelån and the bathing pond. Its length is clearly stated as four kilometres. Along the trail there are information boards, rest areas, bridges and signposts. The combination of trail markings and information boards helps with navigation, while the rest areas invite you to take a break along the loop. Local trail conditions may change; check them before your walk.
Gullringsbygden lies in the northern part of Vimmerby Municipality. The area offers deep forests, sparkling lakes and a vibrant rural landscape, with good forest trails for hiking. The difference is clear for planning your time in nature: the Sme-åna trail follows a marked, four-kilometre circular route; Gullringsbygden offers forest trails in a landscape characterised by forests, lakes and a rural atmosphere.
Dammen Bathing Area
At the Dammen bathing area, jetties extend 24 metres into the lake from a rock outcrop. This unusual arrangement gives the bathing area a distinctive feature. Behind the bathing area are the Brännebro power station and a waterfall. You can park for the bathing area at the Gullemons grusplan football facility; from there, it is about 150 metres on foot to the bathing area. Check the parking arrangements before you arrive. Water conditions and facilities may change; check both before your visit.
Local History and Attractions
Gullringen railway station was inaugurated by King Oscar II on 8 June 1902. The construction of the Östra Centralbanan railway around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries was the immediate cause of the settlement of Gullringen coming into being. The dates refer to different things: the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries marks the period when the railway was built; 8 June 1902 is the date of the inauguration.
The local attraction “lying hens” consists of large boulders resting on a bedrock slab on three smaller stones. The railway station and the stone formation point to two different subjects: the settlement’s historical development and a distinctive local attraction.
Various activities are often held at Gullringen’s library and craft house; the programme may vary. If a particular date is important for planning your stay, check the event schedule. This will help you plan your visit around the activities actually being offered.
