Långasjö brings together the history of a church and historic farms with Klasatorpet’s film history and lakeside paths. This gives you different options to focus on when planning your trip: visiting historic sites, taking a loop around Långasjön or walking the Utvandrarleden stage towards Yxnanäs.

Church, Art and Historic Farms

Today’s Långasjö Kyrka was built in 1789 on the site of an earlier stone church dating from the 13th century. Two different periods of construction thus meet in the same place. The church also features an altarpiece by local artist Elisabeth Bergstrand-Poulsen. Its architectural history and a specific work of art each provide a distinct point of interest for visitors.

Garvaregården, a particularly well-preserved historic farm, lies north of the church. Its residential building dates from the 1870s; the farmstead is associated with pre-industrial tanning. The farm adds another local story to the church’s history: here, the focus is on the building and its traditional connection to the tanning trade.

Klasatorpet is a partially preserved and partially reconstructed historic croft setting and a place to visit. The site became known in the late 1960s through the filming of Jan Troell’s film “The Emigrants,” based on Vilhelm Moberg’s novel series. The connection between the filming location and its literary source offers another way to explore the area’s history. Together with the church and Garvaregården, it lets you choose between architectural history, craftsmanship, and links to film and literature.

Circular Trail by Långasjön and Stage to Yxnanäs

Långasjön lies in the centre of the village and is a scenic recreation area. A 1.7-kilometre circular trail passes through grazing land with oaks and beeches, as well as lakeside vegetation including alders, willows and birches. Its varied sections also make this an interesting landscape walk: it runs through both open pastureland and along vegetated stretches of shoreline.

Another option is stage UL4 of the Utvandrarleden, from Långasjö to Yxnanäs. After leaving Långasjö, it passes pastures, stone walls, farms and forests. A break at a shelter with a lake view is suggested by Lake Flaken. Unlike the circular trail by Långasjön, UL4 is a stage with Yxnanäs as its destination; this distinction can help you choose between a loop and a point-to-point route.

Farm Visit and Open Businesses

Långasjölamm Östergård keeps around 100 sheep; its breeding is KRAV-certified. The farm sells sheepskins, wool, blankets and scarves, and takes orders for meat. During lambing season, it holds an annual open day. If you plan to visit, check the exact date. The products include both raw materials and finished textiles.
