Lindshammar: Glassworks, Circular Trail and Nature
Accommodation in Lindshammar
Lindshammar combines hiking and cycling trails with its historic glassworks and Lake Boskvarnasjön. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between the two routes in terms of their format and length: Vildmarksleden runs through the municipality of Uppvidinge to Lindshammar, while Lindshammarleden is described as a circular route. Cultural and nature interests can also be explored through specific places here.
Hiking Trails and Circular Route
Vildmarksleden is 37 kilometres long and runs through the north-west of the municipality of Uppvidinge, from Norrhult and Klavreström in the south to Lindshammar in the north. Lindshammar is therefore the northern endpoint of the route described; the total length refers to its course through the municipality, not just a section in the village. Several nature reserves, as well as various forest and wetland habitats, are also part of the route in Uppvidinge. The route is therefore characterised not only by its endpoints, but also by its varied landscapes. In Lindshammar, it shares about one kilometre with Höglandsleden. This distance describes only the shared section, not the full 37 kilometres.
Lindshammarleden has a different focus. This circular route passes through village settings, woodland and industrial areas, as well as the lakes Hedasjön and Boskvarnasjön. It is also suitable for cycling. Unlike Vildmarksleden, this is a loop with named places and landscape features, rather than a route through the municipality with southern starting points and a northern destination. If you plan to explore the whole of Lindshammarleden on foot and are arriving by car, the route description recommends parking at the old glassworks in Lindshammar.
A municipal notice advised against hiking on Vildmarksleden from 21 November 2023: damage had made the trail very difficult to walk, especially in the Getaryggarna area. Check trail conditions before setting out if you plan to hike this route.
Glassworks and Industrial History
Lindshammar Glassworks is the northernmost glassworks in Glasriket. It began operating in 1905; production ceased in 2008. The glassworks factory was designed by Wilhelm von Mühlenfels and built between 1949 and 1955. These dates mark three stages in its industrial history: the start of operations, the factory’s later construction and the end of production. Its location in Glasriket places Lindshammar in a regional context, while the building’s history gives the historic glassworks a specific architectural connection.
Lake Boskvarnasjön: Swimming Area and Fishing
Lake Boskvarnasjön is part of the Boskvarna and Lillesjön fisheries management area; the fish listed for the lake are perch, zander, pike and roach. The swimming area at Lake Boskvarnasjön is in the northern part of Lindshammar and has grassy areas and jetties. The lake can thus be explored both through the swimming area’s location in the village and through the fish species listed for the fisheries management area. These two details offer different points of reference for your plans: a specific location in the village and a connection to the named fisheries management area.
