Björköby: Wildlife Park, Outdoor Activities and Food
Accommodation in Björköby
Björköby brings together wildlife encounters, outdoor activities, local history and several places to enjoy baked goods or restaurant meals. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, these different highlights can help you plan your trip around your interests. From the swimming area outside the village to attractions at the Djurpark, the options range from scenery and culture to food and special occasions.
Wildlife Park and Outdoor Activities
On the outskirts of Björköby, not far from Riksväg 47, is Björköby Djurpark. Here you can feed and pet the miniature pigs Leif and Billy. You can also enter some of the animals’ enclosures to pet them; donkey rides are occasionally available too. Check before your trip whether donkey rides will be available during your visit.
For outdoor activities, Björköby has an illuminated running and exercise trail about 2.2 kilometres long. Veckans bana offers courses at four difficulty levels. New orienteering courses are also set up around Björköby during the summer season; the locations change weekly, and seasonal availability varies. If you plan to use a particular course, check that it is available before your trip.
Scenery and Local History
Nömmen swimming area is outside the village of Björköby. Its beach is about 50 metres long and consists mainly of sand and grass. The approximate length and ground cover give you a clear idea of this stretch of shore.
Björkö kyrka was built between 1843 and 1847. At Nömmestenen, the inscription tells of three generations: Rolf, who lost three sons, and his grandson Öper. Öper’s father was probably one of the three deceased brothers. The stone stands 25 metres from the road junction at Nömme in Björköby.
In the area around Björköby, Ekenässjöns Upplevelsemuseum brings together four experience museums in one place. Alongside the church’s architectural history and the story told on Nömmestenen, the museums offer another distinct focus to consider when planning your trip.
Cafés, Restaurant and Special Occasions
Glutenfria Fiket is next to Björköby Djurpark. It serves homemade gluten- and lactose-free baked goods, including cakes, traybakes and pies, in an old-fashioned farm setting.
Hanna's in Björköby offers catering and restaurant meals prepared from scratch. It has seating for up to 120 guests. Other offerings include various beverage tastings, including beer and whisky tastings. Please confirm their availability before your trip.
The farm café Kaffeladan serves homemade treats. Its rustic yet modern barn can be booked for parties, weddings and other special occasions. The places to eat therefore differ in what they offer, from baked goods and restaurant meals to catering and event facilities.
Weighing Up the Different Options
The outdoor activity options differ in how they are laid out: the illuminated running and exercise trail is about 2.2 kilometres long; Veckans bana offers four difficulty levels and courses that change weekly during the summer season. If trail length matters to you, the running trail provides an approximate benchmark. If you want to compare courses by difficulty level, Veckans bana offers a different point of reference.
