Tranås brings together nature reserves, trails, cultural history and activities on the water. If you are looking for a hotel in Tranås, you can start planning your trip around the themes you would like to explore during your stay. The location and route details highlight different attractions, from a lakeside circular trail to a long hiking route and places with cultural and historical significance. Water activities range from the centrally located leisure harbour to the shore of Lake Sommen at Hättebaden.

Nature reserves and trails

The Holavedsleden is 59 kilometres long and starts at Hättebaden campsite in Tranås. It passes through a typical Småland forest landscape dotted with fields and lakes. The Illern runt offers a shorter option: the circular trail is four kilometres long and runs around Lake Illern. The mountain bike trail from Örsbäcken is seven kilometres long and passes through Illern Nature Reserve. The loop around Illern is therefore shorter than the mountain bike trail, while the Holavedsleden is the longest of the three routes mentioned.

Illern Nature Reserve is home to a rich and diverse birdlife. The reserve includes the Örsbäcken outdoor centre, with trails and a lit trail. Örsbäcken is also the starting point for the mountain bike trail. Illern therefore offers several ways to enjoy the area: wildlife watching, trails and a dedicated mountain bike route. In central Tranås, Ekbergsparken Nature Reserve is also home to one of Sweden’s finest stands of oak and hazel.

Cultural history and events

At Eriksbergs museum, a former classroom with historical furnishings has been preserved. Visitors can experience what school was like in the past. The Holaveden local history museum comprises cultural-historical buildings dating from the 18th century. The two examples offer different perspectives: one gives a sense of school life in the past through a furnished classroom, while the other focuses on historic buildings.

Events have also been a long-standing tradition in Tranås. Parade marches on Storgatan have been held continuously since 1992. The tradition of outdoor concerts in Tranås began in 1980. If you would like to include one of these events in your travel plans, check the specific dates in advance.

Harbour, lake and activities on the water

The harbour in Tranås is a centrally located leisure harbour. It has year-round public toilets and a free ramp for launching and retrieving boats. There are also several places in Tranås where you can rent kayaks or canoes. Tranås Wakepark is centrally located at Östanåparken.

Nearby, Hättebaden is about four kilometres from the centre, on the shore of Lake Sommen. It has a child-friendly sandy beach, bathing jetties and a diving tower. Sailing is another way to enjoy Lake Sommen, and visitors can discover one of its 365 islands. The harbour, beach and sailing offer different ways to experience the water, while the location and distance vary for each place.
