If you’re looking for a hotel in Gäddede, you can plan your stay around a specific travel interest: the nature and culture of Frostviken, hiking and views, or a drive along the Wilderness Road. The local attractions and routes serve different purposes. This makes it easier to decide before searching whether Gäddede will be part of a road trip or whether nature and trails will shape your stay.

Nature and culture in Frostviken

Frostviken Mountain Park is located by the tourist information office in Gäddede and features plants from the region. Frostviken Nature Information is in the same premises as the tourist information office and library. It gives visitors an impression of the nature and culture of Frostviken. Visitors can also do a “provkryp” at Korallgrottan from the nature information centre. The two offerings have different focuses: the mountain park features regional plants, while the nature information centre presents the nature and culture of Frostviken and offers the Korallgrottan activity.

Hiking, views and routes in town

Muruhatten is a prominent landform west of Gäddede, towards the Norwegian border. A hike there can start at the school in Gäddede. A blue trail marker and an information sheet are located by the wind shelter on the lit trail. For views across Frostviken, Brännklumpen is another option: this attractive, easily accessible viewpoint in the Brattli area of Gäddede offers views across large parts of Frostviken. Depending on the route you choose, the walk there is about 1 to 1.5 km. At Muruhatten, you can use the possible starting point at the school and the trail markers by the wind shelter to find your way; at Brännklumpen, the distance depends on the route you choose.

Two ski and fitness trails also start at Frostviksskolan in the town centre. They complement the hiking and viewpoint options with a different kind of activity and start in the centre.

Gäddede on the Wilderness Road

The Wilderness Road places Gäddede on a longer circular route. The 500-kilometre loop runs from Strömsund in northern Jämtland via Gäddede to Vilhelmina in southern Lapland, then connects to the E45 via Dorotea. This scenic road is Sweden’s highest paved road; its highest point is 876 metres above sea level. The entire route can be driven from 6 June to 15 October. This period is relevant for the complete loop, while the nature information centre, hiking and viewpoints offer other possible focuses for a stay in Gäddede.

Tailor your hotel search to your travel plans

When searching for hotels in Gäddede, the first thing to consider is the type of trip: for the complete loop, the period when the road is open determines the planning window; for a stay focused on nature, hiking or views, those attractions take priority. Align your search dates with the focus of your trip before choosing a hotel.
