Dvärsätt on Lake Storsjön
Accommodation in Dvärsätt
Dvärsätt lies on the northeastern bay of Lake Storsjön, 17 kilometres northwest of Östersund. Golf, lakeside paths and the fishing area are central to planning your trip here. If you’re looking for a hotel in Dvärsätt, you might first consider whether you want to spend most of your time on the golf course, fishing or outdoors by the water. The history of the village also gives your stay a distinct setting.
Between Lake Storsjön and the mountains
From Dvärsätt, there are views of Lake Storsjön and the Jämtland mountains. The lakeshore is also part of the local network of paths: the old road through Dvärsätt is now a lakeside walking path. You can experience the setting by the lake both through the views and on a walk, without needing a specific excursion plan.
A large boat harbour is also part of the village’s character. It is linked to the former timber floating industry, connecting today’s harbour with a historic use of the water. For your trip planning, this creates a clear contrast between the open views across the lake and the stories associated with Dvärsätt’s lakeshore and harbour.
Golf, a winter ski trail and clubhouse amenities
Sandnäset Golf Club is located in Dvärsätt. Its course has 13 holes and is described as a hilly, natural woodland and parkland course with beautiful views of Lake Storsjön and the mountains. If golf is the main focus of your trip, the course layout is a useful detail for planning; check it before you arrive.
In winter, there is a ski trail of about four kilometres in the golf course area. It is a seasonal addition to the golf facilities, not an activity available all year round. As the trail needs to be maintained in winter, check its current condition before your visit.
There is a parking area for motorhomes and caravans by the clubhouse, with access to a toilet and shower. Confirm that these facilities are available before you arrive. During the season, the clubhouse serves hot dishes, sandwiches, sausages, salads and fika. As the food service is seasonal, you should also check whether it will be open during your visit.
Fishing and waters around Dvärsätt
The Hissmofors fishing area includes the outflow waters of Lake Storsjön. This includes the Indalsälven, which flows north downstream from Dvärsätt through Krokom. The area is said to be accessible year-round; nevertheless, check access conditions and seasonal restrictions before you arrive.
Fishing with a rod is free for everyone at Avaviken and in the Dvärsätt–Bånntjärn area. This information applies to the areas named; it should not be taken as a statement about all waters in the Hissmofors area. Check the current area boundaries and rules before fishing. This will help you distinguish the specific fishing opportunity from the broader description of the fishing area.
History of the village
The first mention of Dvärsätt dates to a letter from 1431. A later change came with the railway: after it opened to traffic in 1882, Dvärsätt got a stopping point and a postal station. Before the bridges were built, a ferry was used to cross from Dvärsätt to Rödön. These milestones tell of different ways of reaching the village, but do not mean that rail or ferry services are available today.
A report by a local heritage association from 2024 documents a cultural walk through Nyland. The farms Bergom, Nyland and Tomte were visited, and guests were introduced to local history and interesting facts. Alpacas grazing at one of the farms were also viewed. The report offers an account of a particular cultural walk; it does not describe a recurring event.
