Storhågna: Skiing and hiking trails in the Fjäll

Storhågna combines alpine slopes, cross-country skiing, hiking and activities on the mountain. If you’re looking for a hotel for a stay in the Fjäll, you can choose based on your planned activities: skiing in connected areas, a particular cross-country trail, a short route with activities for children or a longer hike. Options also vary by season. Trail grooming depends on the season; conditions on hiking trails also play a role.

Skiing and cross-country skiing in Storhågna

Storhågna and Klövsjö form two connected ski areas, with slopes on two Fjälls and varied ski terrain. The Storhågna alpine ski area has green, blue and red runs. Alpine skiing uses 100 percent natural snow.

For cross-country skiing, trails measuring 0.8 km, 1.1 km, 2.5 km, 3 km, 5 km and 7.2 km are available. Storhågna also has a 6 km cross-country connection to Vemdalsskalet. Högfjällsrundan on Slättfjället is machine-groomed and intended for both classic cross-country skiing and skating. It passes Samevistet.

Samevistet is a waffle hut on the Fjäll, 3.5 km from the hotel, and is closed seasonally. It serves waffles made from its own recipe, soups, and hot and cold drinks. If you’re factoring the hut into your route planning, note that it closes seasonally.

Hiking trails and activities on the mountain

Storhågna has well-marked hiking trails of varying difficulty. Hotellslingan is an easier hike. A longer hike leads from Storhågna towards Fallmorafallen; the trip offers views of the Fjäll and the chance to swim in Röjån’s fresh Fjäll water. Swimming depends on the season and weather. From Samevistet, the trail to Fallmorafallen is signposted and adds 1.5 km to the hike. The trail between Storhågna and Samevistet crosses open Fjäll terrain.

Plupps stig is a 1 km discovery trail just outside the hotel, with adventures for children. Along Pluppstigen, there are playful activities: you can balance, jump over tree stumps and rocks, taste spring water and visit Plupp’s hut. If you’re looking for another activity instead of a hike, Storhogna M has a bike arena with a pump track.

Spa, meeting place and travel

Storhogna Spa & Pool has a pool, hot tub and sauna; spa treatments are also available. At the foot of the mountain, Fjällvistet offers a sauna and dinner experience for families and friends.

Storhogna M, also known as M-huset, is a meeting place in Vemdalen. It has a restaurant, bar, gym, bowling, grocery store, SkiStarshop, ski rental and SkiPass sales. Individual offerings may change; check what is currently available before your visit.

You can reach Storhågna by train via Röjan or Östersund C station, then continue by bus or taxi. The SkiStar Bus stops at Storhogna vägskäl junction, at Storhogna M and at Storhogna Högfjällshotell. Stops and routes may change; check your connection before travelling.
