When planning a stay in Bydalen, you can balance skiing, mountain hikes and activities on the water. The Bydalen–Höglekardalen ski area is a winter sports hub; Dromskåran and Västfjället offer different hiking experiences. Dalsjön and Dammån add opportunities to enjoy the water. If you are looking for a hotel, choosing a travel theme can help you plan around the activities that interest you.

Dromskåran, Drommen and Stenhyddan

Near Bydalen, Dromskåran lies on the western side of Drommen. It is a dramatic glacial river gorge of the saddle-gorge type, almost a kilometre long, 50 metres deep and 150 metres wide. On a circular hike, you can experience the gorge from above and from within. The shift between these perspectives gives the route its distinctive character.

The summit of Drommen is 1,140 metres above sea level and about three kilometres from the summit of Dromskåran. Another connection to the history of the mountain area is Stenhyddan: it was built in 1896 as a Raststuga, or rest cabin, for visitors to the mountains at the time. So when planning your trip, you can choose not only the gorge and summits but also traces of the area’s history of mountain visits.

Skiing in the Bydalen–Höglekardalen area

The Bydalen–Höglekardalen ski area, also known as Bydalsfjällen, has 42 downhill runs. There are also ski lessons for different levels, either privately or in groups. Downhill runs and lessons are different aspects of the ski offering: you can consider whether the ski area itself or a course in a particular format is most important to you. Lessons are available for different levels, so your preferred level of instruction can also be taken into account when planning.

Hiking at Västfjället

Västfjället has clearly marked hiking trails. A hike there can start at the car park in Fjällhalsen; check the current access conditions before setting out. By comparison, the circular hike at Dromskåran takes you both above and into the gorge. The two hiking options therefore differ in their described perspectives and the landmarks mentioned for each.

Dalsjön, Dammån and the cycling loop

Dalsjön is an extension of Dammån. You can rent a boat and paddle on the lake; check availability in advance. A minimum size of 45 centimetres applies to trout caught in Dammån. One fish may be kept per day and fishing licence. Check the current fishing regulations again before your outing.

Cycling can also be included in your trip plans: an approximately twelve-kilometre cycling loop can be accessed from Bydalen or Gräftåvallen. This offers another way to spend time outdoors in addition to hiking. To choose between the activities, you can compare the options: experience the gorge on a circular hike, explore the trails at Västfjället, paddle on Dalsjön, fish in Dammån or take a cycling loop.
