When choosing a stay in Böda, you can weigh different priorities: nature, cross-country ski trails, and church and local cultural history. Styggforsen offers scenic landscapes, Boda Church features a medieval work of art, and Boda Gammelgård showcases historic buildings, collections and musical traditions. Should the landscape be the deciding factor, are you drawn to the history of a medieval altarpiece, or are you interested in local dance and traditional folk music? Planning your visit also depends on different factors: services, events or staff being present determine when Boda Church is open; check the calendar for current visiting information. At Boda Gammelgård, check the date of a specific course or event separately if your visit depends on it.

Landscape and directions

Styggforsen features steep cliffs, beautiful views, interesting vegetation and a tall waterfall. Near Boda, a 300-metre gravel path at Styggforsen leads to Getryggen below the waterfall. A barbecue area is located 150 metres along the path.

There are designated barbecue areas in the Styggforsen nature reserve. There is a rest area and a toilet by the car park, as well as a café that opens seasonally in summer. The café is therefore a seasonal amenity. If you want to plan your visit around it, bear in mind that it is open in summer. The outdoor attractions offer different ways to get your bearings: the gravel path at Styggforsen runs for 300 metres to Getryggen, with a barbecue area halfway along. The cross-country ski trails in Boda kyrkby have several access points, with trail centres at Handlarn and Silverbergsängarna.

Church and cross-country ski trails

The remains of a medieval altarpiece from Rättvik Church are kept at Boda Church. The church is open for services and events, and when staff are on site. Check the calendar for current visiting information.

The cross-country ski trails in Boda kyrkby also offer practical guidance: they have several access points, and trail centres are located at Handlarn and Silverbergsängarna. This lets you consider cross-country skiing as a separate priority alongside the church and cultural attractions.

Boda Gammelgård and musical traditions

The Boda Gammelgård site comprises around ten buildings, including a particularly beautiful dance pavilion. Its collections contain around 1,500 objects. Various events and courses are also held at Boda Gammelgård, for example in dance and traditional folk music. If a particular course or event is essential to your trip, check its dates separately.

Over almost 50 years, the Bodastämman grew from an ordinary Friday dance at Boda Gammelgård into a major folk music gathering during Music by Siljan Week. It grew considerably in the mid-1980s.
