Lima: Nature, Trails and History
Accommodation in Lima
Landscape and Hiking
West of Lima rises Tandövala, described as Sweden’s southernmost mountain. The forests around Lima have many hiking trails of varying lengths and difficulty levels. For planning a hike, these are two separate criteria: length describes the scope of a route, while the difficulty level indicates how challenging it is. The Sörbäcken Nature Reserve is near Lima. It is easily accessible from the national highway and offers many trails for outdoor recreation. Sörbäcken is known for its old mountain pasture trails and small waterfalls. Length and difficulty are specified for the forest trails, while Sörbäcken has its own character, with old trails and waterfalls.
Organized hikes take place on the municipality’s trails in summer.
Fishing and Waters
More than 100 waters are marked on the fishing map for the Lima Fishing Conservation Area. The fishing area extends from Lima in the south to the western Sälen Mountains or Rörbäcksnäs in the north. It includes ponds, lakes, smaller streams and the Västerdalälven, which flows through the area. The number of mapped waters and the southern and northern boundaries provide different kinds of information: one indicates how many waters are recorded, while the other shows the extent of the area. Tisjön is the largest lake in the Lima fishing area and is known for its large pike. Several pike weighing over 10 kg are caught there every year. This distinguishes the diversity of the area as a whole from the special status of a single lake.
Äråbadet and Trails
Äråbadet in Limedsforsen has an outdoor swimming pool and a children’s pool. From national highway 66, turn right in Limedsforsen, following the signs for the swimming area. Cross the bridge and then follow the signs to the left after a right-hand bend. Ärnäs XC 7 km starts at Äråbadet. Cycling trails also start at Äråbadet and vary in difficulty, length and route profile. The information varies in specificity: the length of Ärnäs XC is given as 7 km, while the cycling trails vary according to several criteria.
Cultural History
Lima Church was inaugurated in 1856 and designed by Albert Törnqvist. Västagården is an authentic farm in its original location and has been owned by the same family since the 1780s. The farm houses collections from the era of agrarian society. Today, the Fornstugan at Västagården serves as an exhibition and meeting hall. The historical highlights differ: for the church, the year of its inauguration and its architect are central; for Västagården, they are the continuity of family ownership, the agrarian collections and the present-day use of the Fornstugan.
