Tällberg: Siljan Views, Trails and Dalarna-Romantic Wooden Buildings
Accommodation in Tällberg
Tällberg combines views across Siljan with trails, a rich tradition of wooden architecture and activities in the village. When planning your stay, you can choose from nature and scenery, local history and guided experiences.
Scenery and trails by Siljan
From Tällberg, there are views across Siljan towards Sollerö socken; Gesundaberget is also in view. Storängen lies north of Majstångsplatsen and is considered one of Dalarna’s most species-rich meadow landscapes. Another named viewpoint is Digerberget, which offers views across Siljan.
The 7 km circular trail Tällberg runt passes Majstångsplatsen and goes through Digerberget Nature Reserve. The described route therefore combines a connection to the village with a trail through the nature reserve. For a longer route, the 40 km northern route of Leksandsturen passes through Tällberg. Along the way, it offers views as well as shops, cafés and restaurants. The two trails therefore differ considerably in their stated length and type: one is a circular walking trail, while the other is part of a cycling route.
Wooden buildings and local traditions
Holen is Gustaf Ankarcrona’s Dalarna-Romantic artist’s home. It consists of a cluster of old wooden houses from the Leksand area and has been listed as a historic building since 1985. The well-preserved wooden buildings in Tällberg, with their Dalarna-Romantic style, also tell the story of how the village changed during the 20th century: from a farming village to a tourism centre in Leksand and Upper Dalarna.
The Kyrkbåthusen on the shore of Siljan, northwest of Tällberg, illustrate the historic boat traditions of the Siljan area and Leksand. The work of Tällbergs Hembygdsförening is also part of preserving local traditions. Among other things, the association maintains summer lekaftnar and klimpvälling in autumn, as well as celebrations for Walpurgis Night, National Day, Midsummer and Lucia.
Crafts and guided experiences
In summer, you can stroll among the shops and studios at Hantverksgården and meet local craftspeople. The guided tour “Coffee, Fika and Nature Hike” combines a nature theme with a visit to Tällberg; it lasts three hours, is rated moderate and must be booked in advance.
“Meet the Matz family” is also a guided tour. It lasts four hours, is rated easy and is recommended for ages 16 and up; the tour is conducted in English. You should also allow four hours for the “Meteorite Expedition.” This easy cultural experience takes you through the landscape of the Siljan Geopark, includes short hikes and has “Crater of Legends” as its destination. The tour is conducted in English and must be booked in advance. When choosing between these options, consider their differences in duration, difficulty rating and theme: a nature hike, a meeting with the Matz family or a cultural experience with short hikes.
The seasonal experience “Midsummer Fun & Traditions” lasts two hours and is rated easy. It focuses on flowers, folklore and Swedish flavours. Book in advance and check the dates for your visit.
Swimming in Siljan
There is a sheltered bathing area on the shore of Siljan at the campsite in Tällberg village. The bottom is shallow and sandy, and there is also a bathing jetty. Pedal boats, kayaks and rowing boats can be rented at the bathing area. Before your visit, check whether boat rentals are available on your chosen date.
