Jämjö offers several specific points of interest to help you plan your trip: the Ådalen nature reserve, the history of Jämjö kyrka, and trails and ski tracks with specified lengths. Jämjö Skjutsstation and the library also add their own historical and practical themes to the picture of the town.

Ådalen: Geology and trails

The Ådalen nature reserve lies right next to Jämjö in eastern Blekinge. It is a geologically complex and unique formation in Blekinge, and is also rare in southern Sweden. The Hammarbyån, part of the Åbyån, winds through fine-grained sediments and has largely retained its natural, original form. The Ådalen area has several hiking trails and rest areas.

From the centre of Jämjö, you can walk or cycle to the nature reserve. The nearest bus stop to the reserve is Jämjö centrum; from there it is about 500 metres on foot. Check current bus services before travelling. The trails in Ådalen have not been adapted to be accessible for people with disabilities. If accessibility is important to your plans, take this limitation into account when choosing your activities.

The Ådalen hiking trail in Jämjö is 4.0 kilometres long. A two-kilometre section runs from Jämjö kyrka to Orionstugan. This section therefore accounts for half of the stated total length; its endpoints help you find your way along the route.

Jämjö kyrka and local history

Jämjö kyrka is protected as a church heritage site under Chapter 4 of Sweden’s Cultural Heritage Act. Bishop Wilhelm Faxe consecrated the church on 22 October 1826. It was named Oscars kyrka after the crown prince of the time. Its predecessor was a medieval stone church, whose demolition began on 27 April 1824. Stones from the earlier church were reused in the construction of today’s Jämjö kyrka.

Jämjö Skjutsstation also points to the history of travel: its origins as a travel centre date back to the 17th century. The Östra Blekinge Hembygdsförening holds photographic exhibitions there. If you would like to visit an exhibition, check the dates before you arrive.

Trails and ski tracks throughout the year

At Furudalsvägen in Jämjö, there are illuminated running and ski tracks measuring 870 metres, 1.4 kilometres, 2.4 kilometres, 5.0 kilometres, 8.4 kilometres and 10.2 kilometres. This gives you a choice of routes with markedly different lengths. The availability of the ski tracks in winter depends on snow conditions, so plan to use them according to the conditions.

Library and seasonal refreshments

Jämjö Library is accessible to wheelchair users. There is a wheelchair lift and an automatic door opener at the front entrance, a ramp at the rear entrance, and a disabled parking space. After registration, access is available daily from 7 am to 10 pm as part of the unstaffed extended-hours service. The library offers family history programmes and free Wi-Fi. For accessibility planning, it is worth considering this information separately from the conditions in Ådalen. Access and facilities may change; check the latest information before your visit.

Near Jämjö, Kaffestugan is located by the Hallarumsviken bathing area. It serves homemade coffee bread, toast, waffles, sweets and ice cream seasonally. As seasonal opening and offerings may change, check the latest information before visiting.
