Discover Pedralba
Accommodation in Pedralba
Pedralba can be explored through several distinct themes: historic buildings and streets, contemporary art, trails through the landscape and local specialities. When planning your visit, it is worth organising these experiences according to your interests. Architecture and local history can be seen in specific buildings and streets; when it comes to nature and activity, a visit to RincĂłn del PontĂłn, a hiking route and a cycling tour each have a very different character.
Buildings and historic streets
The Iglesia de la PurĂsima ConcepciĂłn dates from the 17th century and was built on the remains of an Arab mosque. Its defining features include the Baroque façade and the impressive main altarpiece. The church offers a tangible insight into Pedralba’s architectural history: its present-day form stands alongside the older remains on which it was built.
The streets also tell the story of the different layers of the townscape. Calle de la Acequia is shaped by the acequia madre canal, bridges and steps. It also features houses that have retained their original structure. Remains of the former castle wall survive on Calle Rocheta, which partly follows the route of Pedralba’s former Muslim medina. Steps make it easier to get around on foot there. While the canal and houses catch the eye on Calle de la Acequia, the wall remains and the street’s route through the former medina point to the historic layout of Calle Rocheta.
Art and views
Casa-Museo Pedralba 2000 is a publicly accessible contemporary art museum. Its permanent exhibition includes 250 works across 1,500 m². The museum is housed in a fully restored building dating from 1911. In Pedralba, historic streets and buildings thus stand alongside an exhibition of contemporary art: those interested in culture can focus on both the town’s heritage and works of art.
The Ermita de la Virgen del Luján stands on a hill with a viewpoint and offers panoramic views of Pedralba. The view over the town offers a different perspective from visiting individual buildings or streets: here, the focus is on Pedralba as a whole.
Nature and routes around Pedralba
Rincón del Pontón can be reached on foot from the town centre via Camino del Candilico. On site, there are shaded picnic tables and benches as well as easily accessible natural pools. The spot combines a walk with the chance to take a break in the shade and enjoy views of the natural pools. The ZEPA (Special Protection Area for Birds) in Pedralba offers themed tours and birdwatching, including opportunities to see eagle owls and Bonelli’s eagles.
For a hike with clearly stated details, the Ruta del Azud covers a distance of 5.85 kilometres. It is classified as easy, with an estimated duration of two hours. The distance and estimated time offer two different points of reference for planning; the duration is explicitly an estimate. The Ruta cicloturista Villamarxant-Pedralba offers a different way to experience the landscape: this mountain biking route follows public paths, passes the La Pea hydroelectric plant and crosses farmland and landscapes along the RĂo Turia.
The Ruta Parque Fluvial de Pedralba follows the RĂo Turia through traditional orchards and recreational areas. There are picnic spots along the route, which also offers nature experiences in the Turia Natural Park. The three routes have different focuses: the Ruta del Azud highlights hiking distance and estimated duration, the Villamarxant-Pedralba route is a mountain biking route, and the Parque Fluvial route combines the river with orchards and recreational areas.
Traditional specialities
Pedralba’s traditional specialities include olla pedralbina, carne a lo pastor, “vitaminas”, coca con tajá and almond Mantecaos. They are available at local restaurants and bakeries. The selection includes both savoury dishes and baked specialities, adding a culinary dimension to the town’s streets, art and landscape.
