Náquera: Hiking Trails, Views and History
Accommodation in Náquera
In Náquera, you can combine hikes with scenic views and local history. The routes vary considerably in length, duration and difficulty, ranging from the 890-metre Fuente del Oro to the 10.53-kilometre Ruta del Salt loop. In town, churches, the Calvario and narrow streets add further cultural interest. The differences outlined below can help you plan your day around walking time, scenery or historical themes.
Choose hiking trails by time and character
The Ruta Satarenya is about 4 kilometres long, has a low difficulty level and takes approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes. It crosses the Satarenya area and follows the ravine of the same name. Its starting point is on Paseo de las Delicias, on the road from Náquera to Serra.
At 4.2 kilometres, the Ruta Creueta is only slightly longer. It has a moderate difficulty level and takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. On Mount Pinar, the route reaches La Creueta at an elevation of 430 metres, where it offers expansive views. The Ruta Penya Roja, by contrast, is a 1-kilometre walk with a low difficulty level and an approximate duration of 1 hour. From the summit of Penya Roja, views extend across the comarca, the Gulf of Valencia, the Valencia plain and the surrounding mountain ranges.
For a longer walk, take the Ruta del Salt PR-CV-329: this 10.53-kilometre loop has a low-to-moderate difficulty level and takes about 3 hours and 10 minutes. It follows the Barranco del Salt and heads back towards Náquera on the return leg. Along the way, it reaches the Fenassar viewpoint and parador, known for its impressive views. The route also passes the Pi del Salt, a monumental pine classified as a tree of local interest.
The Fuente del Oro route is 890 metres long, has a low difficulty level and takes 40 minutes in total. Given its distance, it is intended for bicycles or horses. The stated times and distances provide a practical basis for planning, although local trail conditions may vary.
Landscape and architectural history
At Cabeç Bord, the Posiciones defensivas is an open-air educational museum dedicated to the military architecture of the Spanish Civil War. Republicans built the defensive positions in mid-1938 in connection with the offensive on Valencia, as a forward base in the city’s final defensive belt. From Náquera, the area can be reached by car via the Camí de la Patà. From there, a roughly 3-kilometre gravel track leads to a car park; continue on foot from there. As road conditions may vary, check them before setting out.
History can also be read in the town centre through its buildings and urban layout. Narrow streets preserve the medieval street plan, several remains of which have been discovered. The parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación dates back to the 18th century and was completed in 1757. The present-day Ermita de San Francisco de Asís was built in 1912, reconstructed about a decade later after collapsing, and designed in the Neo-Gothic style. The Calvario was laid out between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its 14 stations are made of tiles and glazed roof tiles.
Villas dating from the late 19th century remain in the La Carrasca area. They represent early second homes and feature Modernist elements, in some cases also Art Deco. If you wish to visit individual villas, check locally whether access is available.
