Faura brings together historic buildings, a landscape shaped by irrigation, and trails toward Pico de los Cuervos. This gives you different aspects to consider when choosing a destination: religious architecture, traces of the town’s earlier history, outdoor activities, and local festivals.

History and Buildings in Faura

The Església dels Sants Joans, also known as the Santos Juanes Church, was rebuilt in the 18th century on the site of a 16th-century church. Its floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross and includes three naves and six chapels. Its features include 28 18th-century frescoes by Joaquim Pérez and Josep Camarón Bonanad. The church’s construction history, floor plan, and frescoes each give it a distinct connection to art and architectural history.

The origins of Faura’s traditional historic center date back to the Arab period. A different period is represented by the Palace of the Lords of the Barony-County of Faura: the building was constructed as a residence in the 15th century and originally served as a watchtower. It is Gothic, and the coat of arms of the Vilarrasa family remains on its façade. The buildings thus represent different periods and functions, from the historic town center to the Gothic palace.

The Santa Bárbara Hermitage dates from 1716. It can be reached via the Calvary, and the route to Pico de los Cuervos can also begin at the hermitage. This makes it possible to combine a visit to this historic building with planning a route outdoors. Check the trail signs before setting out, as you should verify the current route before your trip.

Irrigation Landscape and Trails

Faura’s landscape is crisscrossed by irrigation channels. Traditional hydraulic structures such as partidores and sistars are part of the irrigation network and are still in use. These working structures are part of a landscape shaped not only by fields but also by the flow of water. As you walk among the fields, you can discover the traditional channels.

There are hiking and cycling trails for outdoor activities, as well as routes leading to Pico de los Cuervos. From the peak, panoramic views extend across the Mediterranean and the entire coastal plain. This offers different options: a walk among fields and irrigation channels, or a route with the named viewpoint as its destination. A route there can begin at the Santa Bárbara Hermitage; check the current trail signs before setting out.

Festivals and Fair

The Festes d’Agost are celebrated in honor of the Mare de Déu d’Agost. Activities include Bous al Carrer, Pilota, folk dancing, fireworks, and children’s games. The program brings together different kinds of local festivities; individual offerings may change. If you’d like to plan your trip around these festival days, check the dates and program for your travel year.

The Faura Fair takes place on December 4, the feast day of Saint Barbara. Handcrafted and food products are sold there; the selection may vary from year to year. Its fixed date and connection to Saint Barbara’s feast day give the fair a different seasonal context from the Festes d’Agost. Check the latest program information before your trip.
