Logroño combines wine traditions with architectural and museum history, as well as opportunities to discover the landscape and wildlife. If you are looking for a hotel in the city, your interests can shape the focus of your stay: perhaps the history of wine, historic buildings or paths through parks and vineyards. These different themes can help guide your travel planning.

Wine Traditions and the Way of St James

The Calado de San Gregorio is a historic space for winemaking dating from the 17th century. Today, it is used for temporary exhibitions and events related to wine. It is also the starting point for the exhibition “El Camino del Vino.” The exhibition explores the connection between the Way of St James and wine, and their significance in the history of Logroño.

The Centro de la Cultura del Rioja is a municipal institution dedicated to promoting Rioja wine culture and raising its profile around the world. The Espacio Lagares offers a different historical perspective: from the 16th to the 19th century, the wine of Logroño’s residents was made there. This allows you to explore wine culture both through its history in the city and through how it is presented today.

Old Town, Buildings and Museums

The Concatedral de Santa María de La Redonda stands in the heart of the old town, at Plaza del Mercado. It was elevated to the status of co-cathedral in 1959. Admission is free outside of services, when the church is open; check whether it is accessible before your visit.

The Murallas del Revellín preserve surviving remains of Logroño’s former fortifications. The Cubo del Revellín was built between 1522 and 1524. These details shed light on different aspects of the city’s history: the Murallas highlight the surviving section of a former fortification, while the Cubo is associated with a specific period of construction.

The Museo de La Rioja is housed in an 18th-century Baroque building known as the Palacio de Espartero. Its collections include paintings, sculptures, ethnographic pieces, and materials and objects from archaeological sites. The region’s history is presented there from the earliest Palaeolithic finds to contemporary objects and artworks. This spans the period from the earliest finds to the present day.

The Casa de las Ciencias also has a historical connection: it is housed in the former slaughterhouse, built in 1910 by Luis Barrón. Together with the Museo de La Rioja, it offers a look at different subjects—from regional history and collection objects to the use of a historic building for the Casa de las Ciencias.

Paths, Parks and Wildlife Watching

Guided walking routes are offered in Parque de La Grajera, where the local flora, fauna and ecological relationships are explained. As schedules may change, check in advance for the current programme. The park also has a wildlife observation point for watching the fauna.

Different aspects of the surrounding landscape feature on the routes nearby. An 11.5 km path to Mirador del Viñedo offers panoramic views and passes through a landscape shaped by vineyards. Another, 6.88 km route runs through the three parks close to the city that form Logroño’s green belt. The route through the parks is shorter according to the stated distance; the longer one leads to the viewpoint and passes through vineyard landscapes. This lets you compare the two routes by length and the surroundings described.

A Culinary Note

Calle Laurel offers pinchos, tapas and portions served with Rioja wines. This adds a specific culinary dimension to the stay, complementing the historical and landscape themes. When looking for a hotel in Logroño, you can first consider whether you would prefer to focus on wine culture, museums and architectural history, walks in green spaces or the culinary scene.
