In Aldeanueva De Ebro, wine, architecture and local festivals offer different ways to experience the town. The Wine Museum is dedicated to local winemaking, the Mirador del Viñedo offers views over the wine-growing area and the town, and the Feria Entreviñas brings together vineyards, tastings and food pairings. These themes give you practical ways to plan your visit around your interests or an event date.

Winegrowing and views

The Wine Museum is housed in the restored Ermita de Nuestra Señora del Portal, which was converted into the first wine museum in La Rioja Baja. The exhibition presents educational material on local winemaking and displays traditional agricultural and winemaking equipment and tools. You can arrange visits by calling 941 163214. Confirm the date before you arrive.

The Mirador del Viñedo is a freely accessible observation tower. From there, you can enjoy sweeping views over the wine-growing area and Aldeanueva De Ebro. This offers a chance to see winegrowing not only as the subject of an exhibition, but also in the town’s surrounding landscape.

The Feria Entreviñas has been held on the first weekend of June since 2008. The programme includes walks through the vineyards, tastings, food pairings, winery visits, workshops and exhibitions. Individual activities may vary from year to year, so check the dates and programme for the relevant year before travelling.

Architecture and walks

The Iglesia de San Bartolomé was built of brick from 1573 onwards. The master builder was Domingo de Yarza, and the Renaissance design is attributed to Pérez de Solarte. The south portal belongs to a later phase of construction: it was created in 1728 in the Baroque style. The Atrium Fosal contains sculptures, mosaics and stone paving. At the Monumento de la Plaza de España, sculptures on an upper balustrade represent the seasons, the hours of the day and the stages of human life. The Plaza de Toros Municipal de Aldeanueva De Ebro also has a connection to the art of Miguel Ángel Sáinz: he created its main entrance.

The Ruta Miguel Angel Sainz is a walk through the town centre. Along the way, you can see works by Miguel Ángel Sáinz and visit his workshop. The workshop is run by his niece and student, María Pilar; confirm access before your visit. The urban “Entre Copas” route is marked with tourist signs and offers a self-guided walk through the municipality to local points of interest. Check the signage on site.

Regional cuisine and festivals

The local cuisine of Aldeanueva De Ebro is based on pork products as well as fruit and vegetables. One particular sweet speciality is Mantecosas: local pastries made with flour, eggs, milk and sugar, prepared mainly for Carnival.

The Fiestas de Invierno run from 31 December to 6 January. They include bull-running events, a craft fair featuring products made from grape by-products, concerts, activities for children and young people, and sports activities. At the Hogueras de San Antón on 16 January, fires are lit in the streets, where people roast chuletillas, chistorra and potatoes.

The Fiestas de la Virgen de los Remedios, held on 7 and 8 September, include bull-running events, dances, a mass and a procession. The Fiestas de San Bartolomé feature parades, floats, giants and big-head figures, bull-running events, dances and fireworks.
