Gallinero De Cameros is a mountain village in a wooded area. Historic buildings, hiking trails and features of the surrounding natural landscape give you several factors to consider when choosing your destination. When looking for a hotel, you can decide whether you mainly want to explore the village’s buildings or also set aside time for hikes and bike rides.

Buildings and details from the village’s history

The Iglesia Parroquial de la Asunción is a 16th-century building made of masonry and rubble stone. Its architectural features include an open portico with four round arches and a Rococo altarpiece inside. The façade of the Casa nobiliar bears the coat of arms of a family belonging to the Solar de Tejada. Three of the building’s balconies have surrounds and lintels made of limestone. Gallinero De Cameros also has examples of traditional Cameros architecture, including round-arched portals made of ashlar.

The Ermita de la Virgen de la Cuesta is another notable building in the village. It was built in the 18th century and rebuilt in the following century. The ermita stands on the crest of the slope and can be reached across the site of the former threshing floors. The parish church, Casa nobiliar and ermita showcase different architectural details; their construction dates span the 16th to the 19th centuries.

Flora, valleys and the Pero de Gallinero

The Pero de Gallinero, a common pear tree (Pyrus communis), stands in the village square. It is estimated to be more than 200 years old; the tree is 100 metres from the car park. The area’s diverse flora includes beech trees, oaks, holm oaks and scrubland. Numerous birds of prey can be spotted above the valleys around Gallinero De Cameros. Alongside the buildings, this gives you a choice of distinct themes for your stay: an individual named tree and the area’s plant and animal life.

Hiking and cycling

The GR-93 Sierras de La Rioja runs through Gallinero De Cameros. In the village, the route follows Calle Real beneath the parish church. On the stage from Ortigosa de Cameros to Laguna de Cameros, the village is at kilometre 11.1; the stated walking time for this stage to Gallinero De Cameros is 3 hours and 12 minutes. After leaving the village, the GR-93 climbs 400 metres northeast along the old path to Pinillos.
