Valdenebro De Los Valles lies on the border between the two northern Valladolid landscapes of Tierra de Campos and Montes Torozos. The village centre is situated on the slopes of the Torozos plateau. This setting brings together two scales: regionally, the boundary between the landscape areas; locally, the position of the village centre on the slopes. Its specific location between landscape areas and the topography therefore shape the destination’s first impression. The following features show what makes each of these aspects distinctive.

Landscapes and Views

The village sits on a small hill surrounded by valleys. The slopes at the foot of the Torozos plateaus offer good views and are also ideal for photography. These viewpoints are therefore clearly located on the slopes. Other landscape features include mountains and pine, oak and holm oak forests. These forests and mountains are considered hunting grounds and recreational areas. To weigh up the different landscape experiences, it is useful to distinguish between them: the slopes are associated with views and photography, while the forest and mountain areas have the recreational and hunting character described above.

Churches and Architectural History

The Church of San Vicente Mártir is a Gothic building dating from the 16th century, with a single nave. The nave is covered by a ribbed vault with lierne ribs, while the main chapel has a star vault. A single-nave building has one main space; the two types of vault illustrate the distinction between the nave and the main chapel. The terms describe different vault forms: in a ribbed vault, ribs intersect; a star vault arranges ribs in a star-shaped pattern. The building is attributed to the Palencia architect Gaspar de Solórzano. There is also an old sundial on the wall facing Calle Troya, which is among the oldest in Valladolid.

The former Church of Santa María de Troya is also part of the village’s architectural history. Its site is now used as the village cemetery; the medieval church stood outside the town walls. Only scant, heavily mutilated remains of the former building have survived. San Vicente Mártir is distinguished by its construction period and vault forms; Santa María de Troya differs in its medieval origins and scant remains. The houses also contribute to the village’s appearance: most are made of stone, and some bear coats of arms. The church, former sacred site and residential houses thus stand alongside one another as distinct parts of the local architectural history.
