A trip to Anaya can be shaped around different interests: the linear Río Moros–Valle de los Fresnos hiking route makes hiking a central focus, while the landscape along the Río Moros offers a connection with nature. The Ermita de Ntra. Sra. de Oñez and the Iglesia de Santiago Apóstol showcase different architectural and decorative features. Legends collected in writing and a documented Santa Águeda celebration add to the cultural picture. You can therefore give hiking, landscapes, religious buildings and local traditions their own place among your travel interests.

Hiking and Landscapes along the Río Moros

The Río Moros–Valle de los Fresnos hiking route is linear and 40.09 kilometers long in total. It runs over firm ground and asphalt. Its difficulty level is low, specifically excluding the length. For planning purposes, consider both details together: the difficulty rating does not replace taking the total distance into account. At kilometer 4.9, the route has an access point in Anaya via the SG-V-3143. As trail conditions can change, check them before setting out.

At Puente Oñez in Anaya, the landscape along the Río Moros combines centuries-old trees with pine forests. The route can be assessed by its length, course, surface and difficulty; at Puente Oñez, by contrast, the combination of mature trees and pine forests shapes the landscape. Trip planning can therefore take into account both specific hiking details and a distinct connection with nature and the landscape.

Religious Buildings: Hermitage and Parish Church

The Ermita de Ntra. Sra. de Oñez is 1,400 meters from Anaya, on the right bank of the Río Moros, near the CL-605. There is a spring with spring water within the enclosed grounds. The building is a Mudéjar structure dating from the 18th century, with a single-nave floor plan. The hermitage’s location, architecture and spring are distinct features.

The Iglesia de Santiago Apóstol in Anaya is dedicated to Santiago Apóstol and was built during the Baroque period; its bell gable is older. The main altarpiece includes reliefs of Saint James on horseback, the Evangelists, the Church Fathers and the Annunciation. The two religious buildings have distinct features: the hermitage is defined by its Mudéjar style, date and floor plan, while the parish church stands out for its Baroque period, older bell gable and the subjects depicted on the main altarpiece.

Storytelling Traditions and Santa Águeda

Several legends said to have taken place in Anaya are collected in the two volumes of “Leyendas Segovianas.” Ignacio Sanz compiled the volumes, which were published by the Obra Social de Caja Segovia. At the time, residents of these places passed on the legends. Published in 2017, the collection adds a written record of storytelling traditions to the architectural and landscape themes.

An account dated February 11, 2025, described a traditional celebration in honor of Santa Águeda in Anaya, where residents and visitors came together for planned activities. The image of Santa Águeda was carried through the town, accompanied by dulzaina and tamboril music. Bollo and lemonade were also part of the celebration and were offered to residents. While “Leyendas Segovianas” brings together traditional stories, the account records a celebration featuring shared activities, a procession and music.
