Accommodation in Nava De La Asunción
This helps you decide in advance which of the aspects of the town described here are especially interesting for your stay.
Routes with different focuses
Stage 6 of the Camino de Madrid to Santiago runs through Nava De La Asunción between Santa María and Coca. This makes the pilgrimage route a specific point of reference for travellers on this stage. The Vía Verde del Eresma offers a different historical connection: it begins in Nava at kilometre 48 and runs mostly along the former railway line between Segovia and Medina del Campo.
The background to the Vía Verde includes the original project to restore the railway line. It covered approximately 70 kilometres between Segovia railway station and the former station in Olmedo, in the province of Valladolid. A specific length is given for the Ruta 8 Los Leganares: it ends at its starting point after 10.6 kilometres and passes the Caño del Obispo and Casa del Caño.
Museum, murals and historic buildings
The former station building now houses a museum dedicated to the writer Jaime Gil de Biedma. The Ruta de los Murales offers a different cultural focus: its murals contain social criticism and encourage reflection. Together with the historic buildings, these offer a range of themes for a stay, from literary commemoration to public art.
Casa del Caño is an 18th-century historic building. El Caño del Obispo adds to this picture of the town’s history as a Mannerist fountain built in 1683 at the behest of Bishop Fray Sebastián. The Ermita del Santo Cristo de la Expiración dates from the 16th century and was built in several phases. It is the only one of three hermitages that once stood in the municipality to have survived to the present day. The Monumento a Fray Sebastián de Arévalo y Torres is a sculpture honouring the bishop; it was unveiled in 1982.
The Yacimiento Matabuey is also part of Nava De La Asunción’s history: it is a Roman rural residence belonging to the elite, part of a large agricultural and livestock estate. The town’s history thus extends beyond its historic buildings to include a Roman residence and its agricultural context.
Rivers and pine forests
The Eresma and Voltoya rivers run through the municipality. Near La Mesalta, pine trees shape a landscape known as the “Mar de Pinares.” There is a public picnic area in the Pinar de las Ordes near La Mesalta. The Ribera de Los Alisos offers a view of one of the Eresma’s many gorges. The river landscape, pine forest and viewpoint therefore offer points of interest in their own right, alongside the routes and cultural sites.
Craft market in July
The Mercado artesanal takes place during Semana Cultural on the last Sunday in July in the municipal park. Products on offer include handmade, recycled, restored and ecological goods. If you would like to include the market in your travel plans, check the date and programme of the relevant Semana Cultural in advance.
