Those choosing Lagunilla for a stay will find a range of themes to explore: historic routes, a wine route, woodland landscapes and buildings. The Camino de la Peña de Francia, a historic branch route of the Way of St James, passes through Lagunilla, one of its historic stages. Lagunilla is also part of the Ruta del Vino Sierra de Francia. The Camino therefore represents the area’s historic connection to pilgrimage, while the wine route offers a different tourist focus.

Routes and landscape

The Río Cuerpo de Hombre Route and the Fuente El Canto Route are both suitable for families with children. The terrain is easy to navigate and mostly flat, and water accompanies the trail for long stretches. These features give you concrete points of comparison when choosing a route with children. As conditions can change seasonally, check the current situation before setting out.

The forests around Lagunilla are dense and consist of oaks, rockroses, olive trees and chestnut trees. They provide a habitat for deer, roe deer, wild boar and genets; griffon and black vultures can also be spotted there. The natural side of the area can thus be explored through its forest species and wildlife sightings, while the Camino offers a different, historical route connection.

Buildings and history

The Iglesia Parroquial de la Virgen de la Asunción has a simple architectural design; its features include a bell tower and a wide entrance with arcades. Arcades are openings with arches. The Palacio Episcopal in Lagunilla is also part of the region’s notable cultural heritage. It was completed in 1686 as the summer residence of the Bishop of Coria. The Hospital Asilo de Lagunilla was officially inaugurated on 18 June 1924. The dates mark different historical moments: the completion of the palace in the 17th century and the inauguration of the hospital in the 20th century.

Model railways and festival dates

A dedicated model railway area adds a different theme to the buildings. It features large-scale landscape and railway layouts, as well as display cases containing locomotives, carriages and small dioramas. A diorama is a small, constructed scene; its miniature scale sets it apart from the large-scale layouts. The layouts bring landscape and railway together on a larger scale, while the display cases group individual exhibits. This theme is therefore aimed at those interested in model landscapes and railways.

Festival dates associated with Lagunilla include the main festival in honour of its patron saint, the Virgen de la Asunción, on 15 August. The Feria del Cristo is associated with 14 and 15 September and the Santísimo Cristo de los Afligidos. If a festival date is important to your trip, check in advance whether the event is scheduled for your chosen dates.
