Triollo lies at the foot of Curavacas. The village is located by the dam, at the far end of the Camporredondo Reservoir. The Carrión River is also part of this landscape: it runs through the Pineda valleys before flowing into the reservoir. The mountain, valley and expanse of water give your trip planning a clear geographical framework.

Getting there and finding your way

Triollo can be reached via the P-210, known as the Reservoir Road. At kilometre 21, it runs tangentially past the village centre. The road’s name and the kilometre marker by the village are therefore useful reference points when planning your journey. This information describes the route of the P-210 and the location of Triollo; it does not mean that the road is the same as the paths along the reservoir.

Cycling and hiking

The first section of the mountain bike route from Triollo to Guardo follows the Camino Real towards La Lastra and along the left bank of the Camporredondo Reservoir. The route is recommended from spring to autumn. However, snow can lie at the Cruz de Valsurbio pass in winter and even in spring. When planning the season, it is worth taking both details into account; also check local conditions before setting off.

The GR1 offers two more stage connections to Triollo. The fourth stage, from Cervera de Pisuerga to Triollo, ends in the village. A stage from Triollo to Camporredondo de Alba starts here and offers views of Curavacas and the Camporredondo Reservoir. The different start and end points distinguish the two routes; the views are described for the stage to Camporredondo. This helps you identify the routes by their course and destination, without mistaking them for the same hike.

Village character and history

There are specific points of interest in the village itself, too. Most houses in Triollo are made of stone. The Church of El Salvador has Romanesque origins. A branch of the Cañada Real Leonesa runs through the village. There is also the historic watermill, which supplied flour and light to Triollo, Vidrieros and La Lastra. These different details link the village’s present-day character with its history, without implying that the mill is still operating today.

The municipality of Triollo also includes Vidrieros. Various routes and paths lead from there into the mountains. A cross of Celtic origin is kept in the village chapel in Vidrieros. Within the municipality, this adds further routes beyond those around Triollo, as well as a cultural point of interest of its own; Vidrieros remains a separate village within the municipality.

If you are looking for a hotel in Triollo, you can first decide what you would like to focus on: the mountain bike route and its seasonal snow warning, one of the GR1 stages, or the village’s character and history. The different start and end points help you determine Triollo’s role on each route and choose a destination that fits your plans.
