If you are looking for a hotel in La Horra, it helps to consider the themes you want to shape your stay. Wine tastings vary by provider and format; alongside them are the Iglesia de la Asunción, the history of winegrowing, and notable features of the landscape. This lets you plan around specific visiting conditions, cultural interests, or a connection with nature. For a stay in August, the Semana Cultural is also a seasonal point of reference.

Wine tastings and visiting conditions

Bodega Marqués de Velilla in La Horra offers cellar tours followed by a tasting of two wines, Monday to Friday except on public holidays. You must book an appointment by phone in advance. As visiting days may change, check beforehand whether the offer is available on your preferred date.

At Bodegas Asenjo&Manso, the offer for groups of more than eight people includes a cellar tour with a tasting of two wines. There is also a premium tasting with three wines and snacks. Two details are relevant when choosing: the cellar tour with two wines is subject to a minimum group size, while the premium tasting includes three wines and snacks.

Dominio de Montelahorra invites visitors to tour its cellar, taste its wines, and learn about its history. A visit to Bodegas LA HORRA includes a guided tasting of CORIMBO and CORIMBO I wines, as well as AUBOCASSA extra virgin olive oil. The offers therefore differ in focus, ranging from cellar tours and wine to tastings with snacks or olive oil.

Arrangements and prices at Asenjo&Manso may change, as may visiting arrangements at Dominio de Montelahorra. The tasting selection at Bodegas LA HORRA may also change. Check the information provided by each establishment in advance.

Church, history of winegrowing, and culture

The Iglesia de la Asunción has a three-nave interior with so-called hall church naves. The high altar features two reliefs from the 12th century. The portal, with its large arch, dates from 1780. The layout, reliefs, and portal offer different ways to appreciate the church’s architecture and furnishings.

The Museo del Vino displays the history of wine in La Horra and several tools used in winegrowing. This brings the history of local wine production into focus alongside wine tasting. The underground wine cellar area, “Cogollos,” is known for its famous cone-shaped zarceras.

La Horra’s Semana Cultural is celebrated in August. If you want to plan your trip around the event, check the specific dates in advance.

Landscape and route

The Doncel de Mataperras, also known as Pino Gordo, is an indigenous pine. It is 22 metres tall and has a standard circumference of 4.2 metres. The Montes de La Horra and de Villalobón are mainly covered with pine trees. These features offer different insights into the landscape: the tree is described by its species and dimensions, while the two Montes are defined by their predominant tree cover.

The Sendero Paseos por el Monte starts in La Horra and is about 12 km long. In addition to the named landscape features, there is therefore a specific route with an approximate length. If you plan your trip around a route, keep this distance in mind as a reference point.
