Reboredo: Beach, Coastal Landscape and Maritime Culture
Accommodation in Reboredo
Reboredo combines a beach with a rural character and a coastal landscape of sand, rocks and lagoon. It is also connected to the Way of St. James and maritime culture. If you are planning a hotel stay, these different features can help you get a sense of the destination: are coast and nature your main focus, or are you especially interested in fishing, museum exhibits and a seasonal festival?
Beach and coastal landscape
Area de Reboredo is a beach surrounded by woodland, with coarse white sand in a rural setting. Along the open coast between Reboredo and San Vicente do Mar, small sandy beaches alternate with a gently sloping rocky coastline. A Bodeira is a small coastal lagoon between Reboredo and San Vicente do Mar, and the only one of its kind in the province of Pontevedra. The coastline thus alternates between sand and rocks, while A Bodeira forms a distinctive landscape feature as a lagoon.
Routes and connecting points
Area de Reboredo is connected to the Ruta del Mar de Arousa y Ulla on the Way of St. James. A walking path connects Punta Moreiras with the beach area of Area das Pipas. These refer to different things: the first describes the area's connection to a pilgrimage route; the second path links two specific points. This distinction helps you consider the Way of St. James connection and the walking path as separate aspects of getting around.
Maritime culture and Festa da Salga
The Salgadeiras de Moreiras complex consists of two buildings, several paths and sculptures in the surrounding area. The ensemble therefore includes both buildings and outdoor features. The Museo de la Pesca y la Salgadura building houses a collection of items related to maritime life. For travellers interested in fishing and life at sea, this offers a distinct area of interest alongside the beach and landscape.
The Festa da Salga takes place in the last week of August in the museum space at Salgadeiras de Moreiras in Reboredo. The programme includes guided tours of the museum facilities and a public demonstration of fishing with a boliche net at nearby Praia da Mexilhoeira. The festival thus combines guided tours with a demonstration on the beach. If you are planning a stay around the Festa, check the event dates in advance.
Beach activities
Kayaks and stand-up paddleboards are available to rent at Kiosco Areaso on Area de Reboredo beach; guided tours are also offered. This includes both watercraft rental and guided tours—two different ways to explore the coast actively. Availability may vary by season. So check the current offerings in advance if you are planning one of these activities.
