Choose Miño by travel interest

When planning a stay in Miño, you can choose from a range of interests: beaches, walking trails, historic buildings and the Feira da Cebolla Chata. If you are looking for a hotel in Miño, you can start by considering which of these themes will shape your travel dates. For the beaches, the stated lengths help with comparison; the trails differ in their routes and viewpoints. The Feira takes place during a set period each year.

Beaches and accessible facilities

Playa Grande de Miño is 1,400 metres long, a protected fine-sand beach, and has Blue Flag status. It is on the Camino Inglés. Playa Pequena de Miño – A Ribeira is also a protected fine-sand beach on the Camino Inglés with a Blue Flag, but it measures 700 metres. In terms of length, Playa Grande is twice as long. The descriptions of both beaches therefore provide a concrete point of reference if beach length matters to your plans.

Playa Grande has seven accessible entrances. Each has a suitably adapted parking space and signage. A pilgrims’ hostel is opposite the marshes of the Río Baxoi and very close to Playa Grande de Miño. If this accommodation is of interest for your plans, check the current booking arrangements separately.

Walking trails, waterfalls and viewpoints

Senda dos Sentidos is a straight walking trail just over one kilometre long. It lies within the ZEC Betanzos-Mandeo Special Area of Conservation and has four natural viewpoints overlooking the Ría de Betanzos. The trail’s layout, protected-area setting and views give it a distinctive character.

Another trail leads to Fervenzas do Río Xarío: the three-kilometre walk follows the river upstream to the junction with the Camino Inglés. Several waterfalls and cascades can be seen along the way. By comparison, Senda dos Sentidos is shorter, at just over one kilometre; the two trails can therefore be distinguished by their length, while offering different experiences.

The route to Fervenzas do Río Medio starts on the CP-4804 road at Ponte do Porco; the way to the cascades is signposted. Ruta Molinos do río Medio is a short, straight route that lies entirely within the parish of Callobre. When planning, you can choose between a signposted route to cascades, a short straight trail, and the longer or viewpoint-focused trail descriptions.

Bridge, factory and monument

The historic buildings also differ in age and form. The medieval Ponte Baxoi is a single-arch bridge built in the 14th century at the behest of Fernán Pérez de Andrade. In Ponte do Porco, the Antigua Fábrica de Curtidos dates from 1806 and features traditional building materials. The Monumento a la Casa de los Andrade there, by contrast, is a modern cross dating from 1962 that honours Fernán Pérez de Andrade «O Bo». The dates span the medieval bridge, the 1806 building and the 20th-century monument.

Feira da Cebolla Chata de Miño

Feira da Cebolla Chata de Miño takes place every year on the first weekend of August and has been celebrated without interruption since 1999. The festival includes cooking workshops, tastings, food and drink pairings, and recipe competitions. The first weekend of August is therefore a concrete planning anchor if you would like to time your trip around the Feira. Outside this period, beaches, trails and historic sites offer other ways to shape your stay in Miño.
