Corrubedo between the Dune, Lagoon and Lighthouse
Accommodation in Corrubedo
Corrubedo offers several clearly distinct points of interest for a trip: the migrating dune Duna móvil de Corrubedo, the Laguna de Vixán by the sea, birdwatching and sites of historical and cultural interest. When choosing a hotel, you can first consider whether landscape and nature, or the lighthouse, museum and route connections, should be the deciding factors for you.
Dune, Beach and Lagoon
The Duna mĂłvil de Corrubedo lies north of the natural area, behind A Ladeira beach. It is about 1 km long, up to 250 m wide and around 15 m high, and is considered the largest dune in northern Spain. These different measurements convey its extent in length, width and height. There is also a clear conservation rule: walking on the dune is prohibited.
A Ladeira beach is the beach closest to Corrubedo. The Laguna de Vixán offers a different landscape: it is a freshwater lagoon by the sea. The dune, beach and lagoon thus represent different aspects of the natural area. If you are considering Corrubedo as a travel destination, you can look at these three points of interest separately rather than combining them into a single excursion.
The boundaries of the nature park also help with orientation: the northern boundary of the Parque Natural Complejo Dunar de Corrubedo y Lagunas de Carregal y Vixán runs along the village of Corrubedo and the access road leading there from Artes. Another geographical connection is the AC-303 road, which links Santa UxĂa de Ribeira with Corrubedo.
Birdwatching and the Natural Area
Birdwatchers have two different points of interest. The birdwatching route from Castro de Baroña to Cabo de Corrubedo passes partly through the Parque Natural Complejo Dunar de Corrubedo y Lagunas de Carregal y Vixán. There is also an elevated birdwatching center on the southern shore of the Laguna de Vixán. The route has named endpoints, while the center is a specific location by the lagoon. This makes it possible to distinguish between a route and a fixed observation point when planning around this theme.
Lighthouse, Museum and Route Connections
The Faro de Corrubedo was built in 1853 and designed by Celedonio Uribe. Visitors can see the dunes of the Parque Natural Dunas de Corrubedo from the lighthouse. The lights of the lighthouses of Fisterra and the Islas CĂes can also be seen from there. Its history and views give the Faro its own place among Corrubedo’s destinations.
Another way to explore the natural area is the Centro de InterpretaciĂłn do Ecosistema Litoral de Galicia (CIELGA). The museum presents the natural, geological and historical aspects of the park. The route connections also differ: a stretch of the Camino de Santiago more than 120 km long begins at the Faro de Corrubedo. The Igrexa Parroquial de Santa MarĂa de Corrubedo is included in the Ruta del Mar de Arousa y Ulla. These details connect different interests—from the history of the lighthouse and the interpretation of the park to the named routes—without combining them into a single trail.
Corrubedo as a Destination for Your Hotel Search
When planning a hotel stay, you can assess Corrubedo according to the themes that matter for your trip. The dune, lagoon and birdwatching represent the natural area; the Faro, museum, church and named routes offer other cultural and historical points of interest. Consider which of these perspectives will shape your stay the most, and use it as a guide when searching for hotels in Corrubedo.
