Aranga combines a signposted network of hiking trails with waterfalls and buildings from different periods. If you’re looking for hotels in Aranga, you can plan your trip around what interests you most: hiking, individual natural attractions, church architecture or an annual festival.

Hiking Routes and Waterfalls

The network includes three maintained and signposted hiking routes. There are also information facilities about the municipality’s natural and cultural heritage. Along the Val de Cambás route lies Fraga das Barbudas, one of the route’s scenic and natural attractions. At Pozo de Castro Rodicio, you can see a waterfall if you continue following the stream beyond the route. So when planning your trip, you’ll also need to allow for continuing along the stream.

At Fervenzas de Fervencedo, the deeply carved river, referred to as the Fervenzas or Bexo, forms several waterfalls more than five metres high. By contrast, Fervenza do Arroio da Palanca plunges approximately 20 metres. At Pozo de Castro Rodicio, the path to the waterfall continues beyond the route along the stream; at Fervencedo, access via the main path is not considered particularly difficult, but the route is not signposted. The waterfall destinations therefore differ both in their form and in the route conditions described.

Buildings and Cultural Heritage

Ponte de Aranga is a Baroque-style bridge originally built in the 17th century and is easy to access. There is a car park and a recreation area nearby. As parking and recreation facilities may change, check the current situation before your visit. Fonte da Santa Cruz offers a different feature: the granite fountain with its raised cross is an essential part of Aranga’s local cultural heritage.

Igrexa de San Paio de Aranga was built in the early 18th century in a predominantly rural Baroque style. Its floor plan is shaped like a Latin cross, with three naves and a rectangular apse. The building can therefore be described by its overall shape, the arrangement of its naves and the form of its apse.

Different architectural details take centre stage at Igrexa de San Cristovo de Muniferral. Built in the 13th century, the church preserves original zoomorphic and anthropomorphic corbels on the south wall of the main nave. These terms refer to animal-like and human-like forms, respectively. While the description of San Paio focuses mainly on its floor plan and architectural form, here the focus is on the preserved corbels on a particular wall.

Festival and Regional Context

A culinary event is the Festa do Carneiro ao espeto, held annually in Feás (Aranga), where visitors are invited to sample “carneiro ao espeto”. Dates may vary, so check the festival date before planning your travel dates around it. Aranga is also part of the As Mariñas Coruñesas e Terras do Mandeo Biosphere Reserve.
