Valdelacalzada offers two distinct ways to plan a trip: a townscape whose origins date back to the mid-20th century, and a seasonal attraction that puts fruit-tree blossom in the spotlight every spring. Architecture and blossom appeal to different interests. So if you want to plan your stay around a specific experience, timing is the first thing to consider: the blossom is a spring attraction, while the town’s history provides a guide to sightseeing throughout the year.

Colonisation History and Townscape

Valdelacalzada was founded in 1948 as the first colonisation village of the Badajoz Plan. A prominent landmark connected with this history is the Iglesia de la Sagrada Familia. Borobio Ojeda designed the church; it stands at one end of a U-shaped square and serves as an urban landmark. Its position at the end of the square makes the U-shaped layout part of the architectural impression.

The Poblado de colonizaciĂłn de Valdelacalzada can be visited from the public road. Check the conditions separately if you are considering a visit inside.

Fruit-Tree Blossom and Spring Programme

“Valdelacalzada en Flor” puts the town’s fruit-tree blossom in the spotlight every spring. The visitor programme includes walking routes. The event therefore brings together a nature theme and physical activity: when planning your trip, you can take both the blossom and the available routes into account.

The 2026 “Caminando entre flores” route was 14 kilometres long and started at the town square. This distance and starting point apply to the 2026 edition. If you are planning to attend a later edition, check the details in that year’s event programme.

On 17 June 2026, it was announced that Extremadura’s Tourism Council had given the green light to declaring “Valdelacalzada en Flor” a festival of regional tourist interest.

Casa La Flora and the Fruit Tree’s Annual Cycle

The Centro de Interpretación Floral Casa La Flora is a nature interpretation centre in Valdelacalzada. There, a sensory trail illustrates the cycle of a fruit tree through all four seasons. Unlike the spring event “Valdelacalzada en Flor”, this trail covers a fruit tree’s annual cycle.

Casa La Flora offers various ways to visit and learn about the world of stone-fruit cultivation. Specific visit options may change; check in advance which option is available for your date. Casa La Flora is located at Plaza de España 8 in Valdelacalzada.
