Salomó combines a rich cultural history with a landscape of river, forests and mountains. When looking for a hotel for a stay here, you can plan your trip around whether you are particularly interested in historic buildings, local tradition or trails in nature. These different themes give you a concrete impression of what makes Salomó a distinctive destination.

Cultural Traditions and Buildings

The Ball del Sant Crist tells a local legend in the form of a spoken dance play. This theatrical tradition probably dates back to the first half of the 18th century. It offers a distinctive way to explore Salomó's cultural history: the focus is not only on a story passed down through generations, but also on a special way of presenting it.

The entrance façade of Santa Maria de Salomó retains the original Romanesque portal and windows, as well as ornamental elements of the Romanesque church. The slender, polygonal bell tower dates from the Baroque period and has two storeys. A Romanesque relief depicts a castle flanked by lances and two Maltese crosses inscribed in circles. At Santa Maria, preserved Romanesque details thus sit alongside a later Baroque structure.

Cal Cadernal is a Renaissance building on Carrer de Josep Nin. Its architecture includes a square tower with a hipped roof, documented since the 17th century. The building belonged to the Nin family, a family of knights that wielded considerable influence and power in the 17th century. The building's design and the family's recorded history offer two different perspectives on the house.

The Chapel of Sant Crist also has distinctive architecture: its floor plan follows the shape of a Greek cross, and a hemispherical dome with a drum and lantern rises above it. A guided heritage tour includes the chapel and the Casa Pairal de Cal Cadernal. The tour also explains the chapel's artistic and sculptural richness. Check the arrangements before your trip.

The Cova del Vergerars, also known as Cova Fonda, is associated with finds made of stone, bone, metal and ceramics, dated to the third and second millennia BC. Further architectural details can be found on the main building of La Polla-rossa: its round-arched portal has voussoirs, and the keystone is engraved with the year 1596. The main building of Mas Boronat also has a large round-arched portal with voussoirs; there, the year 1674 is recorded.

The town hall and former school building tell another chapter in the history of local architecture. It was based on a project designed by Cèsar Martinell in 1924, although the building as constructed differed from the original design. The building was inaugurated in 1926. The dates mark different stages: the design and the later inauguration.

Landscape and Trails

The Gaià River forms spectacular meanders in the Salomó area, between forests and mountains. The river, forest and mountain landscapes are home to a wide variety of plant communities and animal species. So, as well as the buildings, the landscape and nature are central to deciding which aspects of the town you would like to explore during your stay.

Salomó's paths and trails are particularly recommended for walkers. One specific option is the Ruta Saludable: it is approximately four kilometres long, runs through the municipality and forms a figure-eight loop. The starting point is in Salomó. Take the length and route shape into account when planning.
