Miami Platja: Coast, Trails and Nature
Accommodation in Miami Platja
Miami Platja offers a range of ways to enjoy a coastal trip: Platja Cristall, walking trails along the coves and the L’Estany Gelat wetland. There are also water sports, a historic building on the beach and cultural sites in town.
Beaches and seaside trails
Platja Cristall is known for its length and lack of crowds. At Club de Mar on this beach, you can kayak, paddleboard and enjoy other water sports. The beach and water sports are therefore a particular highlight for travellers looking to spend time by the sea; the activities mentioned are available at Club de Mar on Platja Cristall.
The Passeig de les Cales runs along all the coves of Miami Platja, from Cala dels Àngels to Cala dels Penyals. It offers a pleasant setting for walks by the sea. The path provides unobstructed access and is convenient for wheelchair users.
Another walking option is Route 6: it passes through the centre of Miami Platja and along the seafront, and also includes L’Estany Gelat. This makes its route, as described, different from the Passeig de les Cales, which runs along the coves. “En famĂlia per Miami Platja” is a family walk around Miami Platja. The Passeig de les Cales follows the line of the coves, Route 6 passes through the town centre and along the seafront and includes L’Estany Gelat, and “En famĂlia per Miami Platja” is a family walk around Miami Platja.
L’Estany Gelat: wetland and habitat
L’Estany Gelat is part of the Natura 2000 network and is one of the few wetlands on the Tarragona coast. One animal that lives there illustrates its distinctive character: L’Estany Gelat is home to the fartet, a small endemic fish threatened with extinction.
Nature lovers will therefore find a different focus here from the beach or a route along the coves. The emphasis is on a wetland and its habitat, rather than solely on the coast as a place for recreation. Route 6 includes L’Estany Gelat; this makes the route of interest to travellers who want to take in the town centre, seafront and wetland on one walking route.
Cultural heritage and local cuisine
History is also present on the coast: a bunker from the Spanish Civil War stands on L’Estany Gelat beach. In town, the Church of Santa MarĂa Magdalena dates from 1964.
The 18th Jornades Gastronòmiques del Pop take place in 2026 in Mont-roig and Miami Platja. Participating restaurants offered dishes, menus or tapas featuring octopus. Octopus dishes are part of the participating restaurants’ offerings during the Jornades.
