La Pineda: Beach, Nature and History
Accommodation in La Pineda
When looking for hotels in La Pineda, it is worth first considering what kind of stay you would like. La Pineda offers several distinct highlights: a beach more than three kilometres long, a promenade with paths for pedestrians and cyclists, and a protected coastal wetland. There is also a shrine with a long construction history and a sculpture group with a literary connection. This makes it possible to choose the destination based on whether the beach, a visit to nature or local history is most important for your trip.
Beach, Promenade and Park
La Pineda beach is more than three kilometres long and has fine, golden sand. The water is calm and clear, with a very gentle slope. These features make the shoreline a clear focus for stays by the water.
La Pineda beach and promenade are adapted for people with reduced mobility and are accessible. This includes several accessible routes from the promenade to the sand and down to the water’s edge, reserved parking spaces, pedestrian crossings and an amphibious chair. As these facilities are important for practical planning, check access and amenities again before your trip.
The redesigned promenade offers paths for pedestrians and cyclists, wooden walkways and places to relax. It combines exercise along the coast with spots to take a break.
Opposite the beach is the 2.5-hectare Parc del Pinar de Perruquet urban park.
Nature Visit at Séquia Major
Séquia Major is a coastal wetland in La Pineda and has been protected under the Pla d'Espais d'Interès Natural de Catalunya since 1993. The annual visits include a circular route of about two kilometres, lasting approximately two hours. Along the way, visitors learn about the site’s history and natural value, interpret animal tracks, and observe birds and protected species. The route and duration provide a practical guide for planning your time, but remain approximate.
According to the municipal visitor information dated July 2026, advance booking is required for visits to Séquia Major; the meeting point is the main entrance at Plaça de la Cançó Catalana in La Pineda. Check the contact details, meeting point and seasonal visit dates again before planning your visit.
Architecture and Art in the Town
The Santuari de la Mare de Déu de La Pineda was built around the second half of the 13th century. Restoration and expansion work took place from 1712 to 1758. Its construction history can therefore be seen in two stages: an approximate medieval construction date, followed in the 18th century by a longer period of restoration and expansion.
The Marca d’Aigua sculpture group stands south of La Pineda beach and honours the writer and poet Carles Barral. Part of the group is situated on a restored bunker-fort from the Spanish Civil War. The sculpture group thus brings together a literary tribute and the history of the Civil War.
