Cunit: Coast, Trails and Cultural Heritage
Accommodation in Cunit
Cunit is a coastal destination with a clearly defined sandy shoreline. Fine sand stretches almost continuously for 2.5 kilometres between Cubelles to the east and Calafell to the west. Seven detached breakwaters shape the shore; they were built between 1977 and 1983. The semicircular coves extend the total beach length to 3.3 kilometres. The landscape and cultural themes also offer their own highlights: routes lead through wooded or agricultural areas, while archaeological heritage and rural buildings reveal other facets of the town. You can therefore plan your visit to Cunit around the coast, landscape or culture, depending on your interests.
Coast and beaches in Cunit
Cunit Llevant is an urban beach with fine, golden sand, a promenade and sports areas. Cunit Llevant also offers pedal boat rentals. The town’s coastline offers a different perspective on the beach: it is almost continuous, yet shaped by semicircular coves. The seven breakwaters define this landscape; their construction between 1977 and 1983 also gives the present-day shoreline a historical context.
During the swimming season, Cunit’s beaches offer a lifeguard and rescue service, showers, drinking fountains, foot-washing stations and toilets. Kiosks, sun loungers, volleyball courts, beach soccer, pétanque, children’s playgrounds and fitness equipment add to the facilities. The fact that these services are available only during the swimming season is important when planning your visit; some facilities at Cunit Llevant may also be seasonal.
Routes through woodland and agricultural landscapes
The Cunit de Sud a Nord route passes through Cunit’s hillier, wooded areas. The Ruta de les Masies passes by Cunit’s most important farmhouses and through areas shaped by agriculture and woodland. The two routes have different focuses: the first highlights hillier terrain and woodland, while the second combines farmhouses with agricultural and wooded landscapes. If you would like to plan an excursion around a particular theme, you can choose between the landscape and rural architecture.
Archaeological heritage and rural buildings
The Iberian archaeological site of Fondo d’en Roig in Cunit has been listed as a Cultural Asset of National Interest in the archaeological zone category since 2014. The Quadra and Masia de Vilaseca are considered some of Cunit’s oldest rural buildings. Together, these examples show different areas of cultural interest: Iberian archaeology on the one hand and rural architectural history on the other.
The Festa Major d'estiu, the Festa de Sant Cristòfol, is also part of Cunit’s cultural calendar. It is celebrated on 2 July in honour of Sant Cristòfol. The festivities include a fire procession, folk dances, Sardanas, a celebratory dance, fireworks and activities for children.
