Calafat: Coves, Marina and Motorsport
Accommodation in Calafat
Calafat offers two distinct highlights for a stay: coves and water activities, as well as motorsport. The names Cala Calafat and Cala Calafató are similar, but refer to coves with different locations and landscapes. The marina, karting and rallycross are also part of the picture. The following details will help you plan your visit.
The similarly named coves
Cala Calafat is located in the Puerto Deportivo de Calafat marina and has crystal-clear water and golden sand. Cala Calafató, by contrast, is in the Calafat residential development, just north of l’Ametlla de Mar. Fine sand and turquoise water define the cove, which is surrounded by pine forests and cliffs. These location details help distinguish the two similarly named coves. Cala Calafató also has a historical distinction: in 1996, it was the first cove in the area to receive the Blue Flag.
Access and beach facilities
To reach Cala Calafató, take the N-340 and the exit for Calafat. After the railway tunnel, continue for about 300 metres to an unattended car park. From there, stairs lead down to the cove, so plan to make the descent on foot. In summer, the beach has showers, toilets, a lifeguard service and daily cleaning. Access and seasonal facilities may change; check the latest conditions before your visit.
Water activities and coastal route
At Cala Calafató, the rocky seabed and Posidonia seagrass meadows are suitable for snorkelling and diving. Sea conditions and the availability of these activities can vary; check the latest situation in advance if you are planning time in the water. Kayakers can set out from Port Calafat beach to explore nearby routes. At Calafat marina, Enjoy Calafat rents boats that can be used without a boating licence. The same provider offers sailing, excursions and fishing from the marina. Operator offerings may change, so it is advisable to check in advance.
The GR-92 coastal route from l’Ametlla to Almadrava is described as a moderately difficult route for families and adventurers.
Motorsport: Rallycross and karting
The operator describes Circuit Calafat Rallycross as Spain’s only permanent rallycross course; the track combines gravel and asphalt. Circuito de Calafat RallyCross was built in accordance with the specific FIA regulations for this discipline. Karting Calafat has a 700-metre track with numerous bends, two chicanes and a width of 7 to 10 metres. Thus, karting is described in terms of specific length and layout, while the mixed surface and FIA-specific construction are the features highlighted for rallycross.
