Vila-rodona offers several clearly distinct points of interest for a trip: the Gaià riverbank, a protected natural area, and traces of the town’s Roman and more recent history. To plan your visit, you can first decide whether nature, architecture or the town’s history will be your main focus.

Nature along the Gaià

There are two picnic areas with tables and barbecue grills along the Gaià riverbank. L'Albereda, at the entrance to Vila-rodona, is a poplar grove within the protected Gaià natural area. These offer two distinct points of interest for nature lovers: picnic facilities by the river and a protected poplar grove at the entrance to the town.

L'Albereda is part of the Camí de les Terres del Riu Gaià. Beyond Vila-rodona, this trail divides into two branches: one passes through Renau, the other through Salomó. L'Albereda and the fork beyond it therefore mark different points along the route: the grove is part of the trail, while Renau and Salomó distinguish its two branches.

Building history from Roman times to 1919

The Bodega modernista de Vila-rodona is a Modernist building constructed by Cèsar Martinell in 1919. The Columbarium of Vila-rodona represents a much earlier period: this Roman funerary building dates from the 1st century. Urns containing the ashes of the deceased were kept in niches in its walls. The dates span the period from Roman times to the early 20th century; at the same time, a funerary building and a Modernist building represent different architectural themes.

The Cooperative Winery of Vila-rodona also has old cellars. This adds another tangible link to the town’s building history. Unlike the Columbarium, which served a funerary function, the Cooperative Winery’s old cellars reflect the wine industry; the buildings therefore also differ in how they were used.

Museum and local themes

The Museu de Vila-rodona’s history room covers the different periods of Vila-rodona and its inhabitants. Another room recreates a house, a school, a café and a square. The displays emphasize different aspects: the history room focuses on periods and inhabitants, while the recreated setting brings together four community spaces. This makes it possible to distinguish the themes of local history and everyday spaces.

A geology room with fossils from the surrounding area adds a natural-history focus to the museum. The town can therefore be explored through several distinct themes: its history and inhabitants, recreated spaces, and geological finds from the surrounding area.
