Eller lies on the right bank of the Duran. The small village center surrounds the parish church of Santa Eulàlia d’Éller. The river and the church mark two distinct points of reference for orientation: the village’s location in the landscape and its architectural center. Those who want to get to know Eller’s character can consider these aspects together. For travel planning, both the village center and the hikes in the surrounding area are independent focal points.

Village Center, Church and Font d’Eller

The parish church of Santa Eulàlia d’Éller is distinguished by a square apse. The original building is believed to have had a single nave and a trapezoidal floor plan, a semicircular apse and a barrel vault. The two apse shapes mark the difference between the church and the presumed form of its original building. An apse is the architectural end of a church’s interior. The other technical terms describe further details: “single-nave” describes the church interior, “trapezoidal” the floor plan, and “barrel vault” the form of the vault. This makes it possible to distinguish the church’s actual form from the uncertainly described original design.

The Majestat d’Éller is also associated with Santa Eulàlia d’Éller; it probably came from this church. The main square is home to the Font d’Eller, with a fountain, a livestock trough and a washhouse. These three features make the ensemble in the square recognizable as a distinctive architectural feature and complement the view of the parish church.

Hikes to Eller and Toward Meranges

The hikes differ in their starting points and directions. A hike to Eller starts at the N-260 near Bellver and climbs uphill to the village. Other routes lead from Eller toward Meranges. This offers two distinct options: an uphill route to Eller and hikes that start in the village.

On the Éller–Meranges route, the outward leg follows the Sender de Cerdanya SC113 to Font de l’Àrtic near the Meranges mill. The route passes through woodland along the banks of a stream. Another circular hiking route leads from Eller’s village center toward Meranges; both villages are in Baixa Cerdanya. One route specifies the course along the SC113 through woodland and along the stream, while the other is expressly described as a circular hike starting from the village center.

For your planning, it is also helpful to know Eller’s role on the route: the hike from the N-260 climbs uphill to the village, while the circular route starts in the village center. This lets you decide whether Eller should be the destination of a hike or the starting point for a loop.

One return route first leads to the Pla de Matons area; from there, there are views of Meranges and PuigpedrĂłs. Whether the views are available depends on the weather and the season. As trail conditions can change seasonally, check local conditions before your hike.
