Granera brings together cultural and historical sights, walking routes and events. If you’re looking for a hotel for your stay, you can choose your destination based on your interests: local architecture, walks focused on nature and dry-stone heritage, or a programme with scheduled events.

Natural surroundings, castle and views

The Parc Natural de Sant Llorenç del Munt i l’Obac covers 376.5 hectares of Granera’s municipal area. At the start of Carrer del Castell is the Mirador de Can Cucut viewpoint. From there, you can see Sant Llorenç del Munt, Montserrat and Castell de Granera.

Castell de Granera stands on a rocky outcrop above Raval del Castell, at an altitude of about 830 metres. The surviving walls enclose the site, and its polygonal structure follows the rocky terrain. The castle was first mentioned in writing in 971. Here, a striking location meets a long, documented history.

Chapels and traces of everyday life

Santa CecĂlia de Granera is an 11th-century Romanesque chapel, documented since 1065. Faded Romanesque murals survive inside, depicting Christ Pantocrator and four angels around a mandorla. The chapel was fully restored and reopened for worship on 5 September 1976.

Església de Sant Martí also features architectural details from different periods. The 13th-century church has a rectangular nave, and its original late Romanesque portal is still visible. The rectory and town hall adjoin the church. Two restored public washhouses add to the local heritage: Bassa del Prat at the entrance to the village and Safareig de la Rectoria. The Aplec takes place at Bassa del Prat on the Sunday before the Festa Major.

At Girbau, there is a well-preserved kiln used to make tiles, bricks and roof tiles, as well as a dry-stone wall with a well-preserved winegrowers’ hut, described as picturesque. These structures tell the story of different ways of working with local materials. To understand how these places fit into the route, the Volta circular per Granera leads to Can Girbau, a Catalan farmhouse, and reaches the Forn d’obra del Girbau about an hour after setting out.

Walks and scheduled activities

The Volta circular per Granera follows marked sections of the Ronda del Moianès (GR 177). Some sections are suitable for cycling; the route is not suitable for cars or four-wheel-drive vehicles. As trail conditions may change, it’s a good idea to check them before setting out.

The Tomba del Moro is an anthropomorphic tomb carved into the rock, dating from the early Middle Ages or an earlier period. It lies at the southern end of Serrat del Moro, north of and close to Masia de l'Otzet. It can be reached via a steep uphill path leading north from Otzet. Factor the climb into your plans and check the trail conditions here too.

The Festival a Granera–Viu la Música al Parc takes place every year and combines a walk, a nature workshop, a concert and a food tasting. The Passejades trementinaires per Granera is listed in the 2026 programme as an approximately two-hour walk through different landscapes in Granera. Participants learn about wild plants and their uses; the properties of a particular plant are also explained, along with recipes in which it is the main ingredient. Check the date before your visit, as plans may change.

The 2026 park programme lists the walks “Reconstruïm pedra seca a Granera” and “Descobrim pedra seca a Granera” on Saturdays. They offer a chance to discover and help rebuild the dry-stone heritage. The activities have different focuses: the Passejades centre on plants and their uses, while the two walks focus on dry-stone construction.

Local cuisine and how to get there

Granera’s cuisine reflects the gastronomy of the Moianès region. It includes artisan cheeses and cured meats, as well as organic meat, vegetables and mushrooms from the region.

The most direct route from Barcelona to Granera is via the C-59 towards Castellterçol. Check current road conditions before setting out. When planning your trip, you can match your specific interests in history, walking routes and events with your travel arrangements, without assuming that scheduled activities are available all year round.
