Esplugues De Llobregat brings together several cultural themes: tile art, industrial ceramics history, historic architecture and city routes. If you are looking for a hotel, the focus of your travel plans can help determine your choice of destination. The attractions offer different perspectives—from a chronological tile exhibition to a tour of the city’s history.

Tile Art and Ceramics History

Can Tinturé is Spain’s first museum dedicated exclusively to tiles. It displays examples dating from the 14th to the 19th century. The exhibition traces the chronological and aesthetic development of patterned tiles from the Middle Ages to the threshold of industrialisation. The museum is housed in a historic tower in Esplugues’ historic centre. Architect Claudi Duran i Ventosa built it in 1898. This brings together the long development of a single art form and the history of a specific building.

La Rajoleta focuses on the industrial history of ceramics. The site includes six Arab-style kilns: two large underground kilns, two bottle kilns and a kiln for lustreware. You can also see the remains of the settling tanks, mill room, clay area, foundations and steam engine chimney. While Can Tinturé explores patterned tiles in their chronological and aesthetic development, La Rajoleta focuses on kilns and industrial remains.

Monastery, Architecture and Art

The Monestir de MontsiĂł comprises a 14th-century Gothic cloister, a monastic church and the modernist Can Casanovas house by Antoni Maria GallissĂ . The different buildings bring together several architectural influences in one place: a medieval cloister, a church and a modernist house. Espai CorberĂł adds to the cultural picture as a large-scale work of art by sculptor Xavier CorberĂł Olivella.

City Routes with Different Focuses

La mà d’Esplugues is a historical walking tour through the centre, with 16 notable stops. You can follow it independently using a smartphone or join a guided tour. Another city route explores the effects of the Spanish Civil War of 1936–1939 on the city and is based on real eyewitness accounts and other sources. A visit inside the Monestir de Montsió is part of the La memòria de la ciutat route. These options offer different focuses: a historical walk through the centre, the city’s history during the Civil War or a visit inside the monastery.

Park and Cultural Programme

Parc dels Torrents covers 16 hectares and features native vegetation. Stairs, ramps and footbridges make it easier to get around the park. Alongside the buildings and historical routes, the park landscape offers another distinct focus.

The Festa Major de Santa Magdalena, also known as Festa Petita, is a recurring festival featuring local dances, offerings, an iron procession, a castellers festival and a human tower performed while walking. The exact programme may vary from year to year. EspluLAB offers activities for everyone, as well as workshops and talks; here too, specific programme events change over time.
