Baix Llobregat: Nature, Trails and Heritage
Accommodation in Baix Llobregat
Baix Llobregat combines fine sandy beaches with a landscape shaped by mountain ranges such as Montserrat and Garraf. The Llobregat Delta also defines the region and is noted for its ecological richness. Les Muntanyes del Baix cover more than 120 km², including over 10,000 hectares of forest. This brings together a variety of landscapes—from coastal stretches and wooded mountains to the delta.
Explore the landscape and trails
For a close-up view of the mountain ridges, take the Roca Foradada route. It leads to a 642-metre-high viewpoint overlooking Vall de Corbera, the Baix Llobregat plain and the sea. The comarca’s trail network consists of marked paths arranged along three parallel routes. These connect places in Baix Llobregat and extend to Barcelona and the beaches of the Llobregat Delta. The routes follow the river, as well as western and eastern lines.
The western route, Eje de Poniente, is 80 kilometres long in total and is supplemented by more than 90 kilometres of alternative routes and connecting paths. In Corbera de Llobregat, it splits; the Eje de Poniente Interior continues to the beaches of Castelldefels, GavĂ and Viladecans. The Eje del RĂo offers a different type of path: from Martorell, a wide, gently sloping, flat route runs along both banks of the river, making it suitable for walking and cycling. The eight self-guided routes put together by Corbera’s tourism area for the town and its surroundings add locally based outings to these regional trails.
Corbera also offers sporting activities. Held annually in January, the Cinc Cims mountain race covers 27.6 kilometres and includes 1,325 metres of elevation gain. If you are planning your trip around the race, check the latest event dates and details.
Romanesque buildings and events
The former monastery of Sant Ponç was founded in the 11th century and is an example of Lombard Romanesque architecture in Baix Llobregat. It belonged to a network of Benedictine monasteries that served religious, agricultural and territorial-control functions. The site’s history is thus shaped both by its architecture and by its former role in the region.
In Corbera de Llobregat, the church of Santa Maria dates from the 13th century. It stands on a summit where part of the former castle of the Barons of Corbera once stood; the church and castle have always been part of the same complex. Staged tours focusing on history and heritage take place there throughout the year. These include immersive visits about feudal history and three visits a year to the former monastery of Sant Ponç.
The event calendar also includes the Mercado del Bandolero, held on the first Saturday in October. The programme features traditional craft demonstrations, local gastronomy and workshops. If you would like your trip to include a tour or event, it is worth checking the specific dates in advance.
Seasonal activities and regional cuisine
In spring and summer, the guided Rutes d'herbes Silvestres wild-herb routes in Corbera show visitors how to identify edible and medicinal wild plants and use them in cooking. Spring and summer also bring entertaining astronomy evenings, with telescope observations and accessible explanations. Visitors learn about constellations, planets and other celestial objects. The two activities have different focuses: one explores knowledge of plants and how to use them, while the other involves observing and understanding the night sky.
Regional cuisine is also connected to the landscape. It uses local products with a designation of origin, grown in the Parc Agrari del Baix Llobregat. The specific products available may vary. If you would like to include regional cuisine alongside nature and heritage in your trip, these products can provide another starting point for planning.
