Accommodation in Valmojado
Valmojado offers a range of experiences that involve different timings and visiting arrangements when planning a trip: the Museo Etnográfico, private caves, festivals throughout the year, and trails through the agricultural surroundings. If you are looking for a hotel in Valmojado, you can plan your stay around a specific cultural event, a festival, or walks and cycling trips.
Cultural attractions with different visiting arrangements
The Museo Etnográfico de Valmojado opened in 1999. It is located in the basement rooms and main hall of the Casa de la Cultura, Avenida de Castilla-La Mancha 14–16. Visits require an appointment in advance. Before your visit, check the current contact options so you can arrange an appointment. The museum should therefore be treated as a planned visit rather than a spontaneous stop.
The Cuevas de Valmojado offer a different insight into the area’s agricultural history: this private network of underground galleries is mentioned in notarial documents dating back to the 17th century and is associated with traditional agricultural activities. Some caves can be visited with the owners’ prior permission. Obtain their consent before planning a visit.
Festivals with fixed and movable dates
The Fiesta Pirotécnica combines the Castilian tradition of Toros de Fuego with Valencian firework traditions. These include the fireworks castle, the Cordà , the Despertà , and one of the largest Mascletàs in the country. The exact dates and programme of the Fiesta may vary from year to year; check the details of the relevant edition before planning your trip around it.
The Fiestas in honour of Santo Cristo del Amparo date back to 1656 and are celebrated on 4 May. The Feria and Fiestas in honour of Santo Domingo de Guzmán usually take place on the first weekend in August; the local public holiday is 8 August. The programmes for these festivals may also vary from year to year.
Another tradition is the celebration of the Mayordomos del SantĂsimo Sacramento and DĂa del Cordero, the oldest festival in the municipality that is still held today. It reaches its climax on Easter Monday: a decorated sheep and a lamb are paraded through the town, followed by a popular celebration with dancing. For planning purposes, this means taking into account the fixed date of 4 May, the movable Easter date, and the usual first weekend in August.
Rural trails and nature in Valmojado
Valdeniebla, also known as Valdiniebla, lies in the northern part of the municipality of Valmojado, in the comarca of La Sagra (Toledo), and covers around 550 hectares. The area is home to 162 vertebrate species, including birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles; 126 of these are protected under European, national or regional law. Species numbers may change as a result of subsequent scientific updates. Another distinctive feature is a relict forest of Portuguese oaks, completely isolated from the other Portuguese oak stands and considered a remnant of an earlier, wetter climatic period.
The agricultural surroundings offer rural trails for walks and cycling trips through vineyards and traditionally cultivated farmland. Valmojado is also part of the Ruta del Vino de Méntrida. These attractions offer different ways to plan your visit: the trails pass through cultivated landscapes, while Valdeniebla is distinguished by its designated natural features.
An old livestock track crosses the municipality from north to south, running close to the houses in the town centre. It is 90 Castilian varas wide. Reforestation is currently under way along its edges to create a Greenway; a section of the livestock track has been turned into a botanical forest park with more than 65 different tree and shrub species.
