Los Navalucillos: Routes, Landscapes and Architectural Heritage
Accommodation in Los Navalucillos
Los Navalucillos offers a range of options to help you plan your trip: routes lead to a summit, along riverside landscapes or to a waterfall; there is also an ethnographic museum and distinctive buildings. If you are looking for a hotel in Los Navalucillos, these themes can help you decide what to focus on during your trip.
Discover everyday life and architectural history
The Museo Etnográfico de los Navalucillos explores the history and traditions of the local population. Its themed sections cover agriculture, livestock farming, customs and everyday life. Alongside the town’s architectural history, daily life takes center stage. The museum provides a leaflet for a self-guided tour; visits are usually accompanied by a guide who works there. As visiting arrangements may change, check how visits are organized before you go.
The Oficina de Turismo de Los Navalucillos is housed in the Museo Etnográfico and provides information about the Parque Nacional de Cabañeros and its routes. If you plan to visit this information office, check its location locally before setting out.
The Ermita de Ntra. Sra. la Virgen de las Saleras can also be dated by its architectural style and furnishings: it dates from 1632, is designed in the Renaissance style, and has a Latin cross floor plan. The paintings on the interior dome were created in 1822—considerably later than the construction of the ermita.
At the Iglesia Parroquial de San Sebastián, architectural details can be found on the altar, entrance and tower. The main altar was carved in 1702, gilded in 1718 and created by the school of JosĂ© de Churriguera. At the north entrance, also known as La UmbrĂa, there is a conopial brick arch. The brick-built tower has been rebuilt several times and is crowned by a depiction of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Choose routes by landscape and destination
The Ruta Rocigalgo passes over the Collado del Chorro at 1,318 m and then heads northeast to the summit of Rocigalgo at 1,451 m. Along the way, there are expansive panoramic views and opportunities to spot vultures, eagles, roe deer and deer. Its summit destination, elevation figures and possible wildlife sightings give this route a different focus from the trails along the RĂo Pusa.
The Ruta Hoces del RĂo Pusa runs through typical riverside vegetation, including ash and willow trees. It passes a rare service tree and a large cork oak; in its final section it reaches the Embalse del Rusa reservoir. By contrast, the rocky ridges along the Ruta Solana de las Callejas offer far-reaching panoramic views, including the Sierra de Gredos, cultivated plains, Los Navalucillos, the RĂo Pusa, La Calanchera, the Valle del Chorro, the Sierra de la Botija and Vallecasar.
Experience another riverside landscape on the Ruta Sierra de la Botija. It follows the left bank of the RĂo Pusa to the foot of the Sierra de La Botija and ends at small pools in the river. Swimming may be possible there in suitable weather, so base your plans on the conditions on the day of your visit.
Other routes can also be distinguished by their paths and destinations. The Ruta Minas y Collado de la Ermita can begin at the Las Becerras recreation area and follows a forest track towards El Chorro. It leads to mines that are fenced off to protect them from collapse and disappearance. The Ruta de El Chorro leads to the waterfall of the same name, which is more than 20 meters high. On the Ruta Agroturismo Los Lucillos, you cross the RĂo Pusa on stone stepping stones; the trail then leads to three lucillos near the Charco de la Mora.
The different route highlights can help you choose an excursion: the Rocigalgo route focuses on the summit and wildlife watching, while the Hoces del RĂo Pusa features riverside vegetation and individual trees. The Sierra de la Botija offers the described opportunity to swim only in suitable weather. This lets you plan around the named destinations and conditions without categorizing the routes by walking times or difficulty levels that have not been specified.
