Burguillos De Toledo offers different points of interest for a trip: church architecture, religious festive traditions, and walking trails along the Arroyo Guajaraz. This lets you consider cultural interests, a specific festival date, and time outdoors as distinct priorities. Church architecture is a different focus from the Romerías, which take place on specific dates.

Churches in the Toledan Baroque style

The Iglesia Parroquial Santa María Magdalena is a 17th-century church in the Toledan Baroque style. Its single-nave floor plan is shaped like a Latin cross. The Ermita de San Blas also dates from the 17th century and belongs to the Toledan Baroque style. Its floor plan also follows the shape of a Latin cross; it additionally has a vaulted nave and a dome over the crossing. Both buildings share the same period, style, and cruciform floor plan. The parish church has a single nave, while the Ermita is additionally characterized by its vaulted nave and dome. The Ermita de San Blas has been undergoing rehabilitation since 2008. Romerías and their dates

The Romería de San Blas includes a procession from the parish church to its Ermita, a sung Mass, and a communal meal. Its traditional date is February 3; published programs may differ. Since 2010, the Romería has once again been held at the Ermita de San Blas, after an interruption of more than 70 years. The program for February 3, 2024, included a tasting of homemade sweets and San Blas rosquillas. For later dates, check whether this tasting is planned again. If you are traveling for the Romería, also check the specific date in the published program.

The Romería de Nuestra Señora de Burguillos began in 2016; its sixth edition took place on May 31, 2023. At the 2023 celebration, migas and lemonade were served to participants. The dates of the two pilgrimages have different temporal references: February 3 is the traditional date of San Blas, while May 31 refers to a specific edition of the Romería de Nuestra Señora in 2023.

Traditions with their own timelines

The origins of the Baile de la Bandera date back to the 16th century; the oldest known written record dates to 1721. The Carretillas Escapadas have been recognized as a festival of local religious and cultural interest since 2012. These dates refer to different historical aspects: in the case of the Baile, they concern the origins of a tradition and a written record; for the Carretillas, they refer to the year of its recognition. The 1721 record is therefore not claimed to be the year the Baile originated.

Walking trails along the Arroyo Guajaraz

Walking trails along the Arroyo Guajaraz pass through riverside vegetation. This offers a landscape-focused option alongside the buildings and festive traditions: here, the trails and riverside vegetation are the main focus. Check trail conditions before setting out.
