La Felipa: Festival Traditions and Cucos
Accommodation in La Felipa
There are several ways to plan your trip to La Felipa: festival traditions with dated programmes, the cultural heritage of the Cucos, and a stage of the GR 239 Camino de Santiago de Levante. There is also a municipal swimming pool and a lagoon in the La Sabina area. If you are travelling for a celebration, check the current dates in advance; if you are hiking, check trail conditions and signage before setting out.
Festivals and historical dates
San Isidro Labrador is the patron saint of La Felipa; his feast day is 15 May. Celebrations in his honour were held from 15 to 17 May in 2015 and from 15 to 19 May in 2019. Both periods began on the same day, but the 2019 programme lasted two days longer. The 2015 festival programme included a traditional Mass and a procession.
The hermitage of La Felipa is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception and San Isidro Labrador. Patron saint celebrations in honour of the Immaculate Conception are also associated with La Felipa; the “De la Purísima” programme was scheduled for 5–8 December in 2015. On 7 December 2021, a Quintos bonfire in honour of the Purísima Concepción was scheduled for 8 p.m.
Another event with clearly specified dates was the provincial individual chess championship on 15 January 2020. La Felipa hosted it for the sixth consecutive time; competitions were held in the Open, Women’s and Veterans’ categories. The tournament offered a different focus from the religious festival programmes.
Música en el Cuco and rural heritage
In August 2026, the stated aim of “Música en el Cuco” was to revive traditional Cucos and spotlight these structures as part of the cultural heritage. The format is an open-air concert series in a rural setting. A concert held in La Felipa was part of the provincial festival; by August 2026, the programme had already held three concerts there at the Cuco. Traditional Cucos in the province of Albacete served as shepherds’ shelters for decades. This historical use explains why this type of structure is associated with rural life and cultural heritage.
For an event in 2026, the recommended route from La Felipa to the Cuco was via the CM-322 towards Casas de Juan Núñez: 2.2 km along the road, then left and a further 300 m or so along a rural track. Since this recommendation relates to a 2026 event, check the directions before setting out.
Water and trails
The Chinchilla–Albacete stage of the GR 239 Camino de Santiago de Levante is considered open. It reaches the road to La Felipa and then continues towards Albacete. Check trail conditions and signage before setting out.
The municipal swimming pool is outside the town centre and can be reached via Avenida Miguel de Cervantes. The complex has a bar/cafeteria with a terrace. Operating arrangements may change; check before visiting.
In the La Sabina area, the María Cristina Canal feeds a lagoon alongside the road between Valdeganga and La Felipa. This connection between the canal, lagoon and road complements the more date- or activity-focused topics.
