Uga: Market, Wine Route and La Geria
Accommodation in Uga
Uga is located near Timanfaya National Park. The village offers several starting points for a stay: the La Geria PR-LZ40 hiking trail, a market selling local produce and handicrafts, and road and bus connections.
Hiking and roads through La Geria
The La Geria PR-LZ40 hiking trail runs through the protected landscape between TĂas and Uga and is divided into four variants. The trail can be reached from the Church of San Isidro in Uga. La Geria protects the traditional agricultural landscape and is considered one of Lanzarote’s most characteristic agricultural landscapes. Here, a hiking route between two villages meets a landscape whose protection helps preserve traditional agriculture.
The Church of San Isidro stands in the town centre and dates from the 20th century. A report from 2026 said it had been closed since January because of leaks in the roof and the risk of building materials falling. Check current access before visiting.
The LZ-30 is important for getting around by road: it is considered the main access route to the protected landscape and runs between Teguise and Uga. From the south, the El Morro de Uga roundabout provides access to the La Geria wine-growing area. The road between Uga and Las Asomadas also has its own name: it is known as the “Wine Route” or “carretera del vino”. This means that the landmarks for a hike differ from those for travelling by car. Check road conditions before setting off.
Market and local produce
The Uga market offers locally grown fruit and vegetables, cheese, meat and fish. There is also artisan bread, homemade sweets, jams, infusions and handicrafts. The range therefore extends from everyday food to handmade products; individual stalls may vary. The market is open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays. Check the current opening days before your visit.
The 2026 Wine Run also brought wine together with local produce: the event featured wine tastings and food based on wine. This is a specific event-related connection from 2026, alongside the enduring road reference of the Wine Route between Uga and Las Asomadas.
Festivals, history and camel rides
The Feria Insular de Ganado San Isidro Labrador in Uga celebrated its 17th edition in 2026. The programme included a conference about the Canarian camel and its identity on Lanzarote. The 2024 San Isidro Labrador celebrations included a traditional RomerĂa with traditional dress, festively decorated camels, folk groups and offerings to the saint. In the religious programme, a procession followed a solemn service.
A sculpture honouring Canarian wrestling legend JoaquĂn RodrĂguez Cabrera, known as “Pollo de Uga” (1895–1959), was also unveiled in Uga in 2026. Another connection with camels can be found in nearby Timanfaya: camel rides began there in the 1950s. They are considered a sustainable and regulated tourist activity. Check current operating conditions before visiting.
Getting there by bus
Intercity route 60 passes through Uga; route 61 connects the airport with Uga. These are two different points of reference for getting there: one route passes through the village, while the other provides a connection to the airport. Check the timetables for your travel day, as they may change.
