Arguineguín: Beaches, Harbor and Maritime Tradition
Accommodation in Arguineguín
Arguineguín offers a range of options to consider when planning your trip: beaches with different types of sand, maritime excursions departing from Puerto de Arguineguín, and hikes through Gran Canaria’s natural landscapes. The Fiestas del Carmen, held in July, are another highlight. If you are looking for a hotel, you can start by considering whether beaches, time on the water, local culture or hiking will shape your stay.
Beaches and swimming
Anfi del Mar is in La Playa de Arguineguín and has fine white sand and calm water suitable for relaxed swimming. Playa de Arguineguín, by contrast, is a dark-sand beach with sand and pebbles, and also has calm water for swimming. Anfi del Mar has fine white sand, while Playa de Arguineguín has dark sand and pebbles; actual water conditions may vary.
Playa de Arguineguín is easy to reach on foot, by car or by boat. Check the current access conditions before your visit. At Anfi del Mar beach in La Playa de Arguineguín, you can rent kayaks and pedal boats; availability may vary seasonally.
Excursions and activities on the water
Five boats are available for maritime excursions at Puerto de Arguineguín. These are separate from the regular boat services from the port, which serve Anfi del Mar, Puerto Rico and Puerto de Mogán. Check the availability of excursion boats before booking; routes and operators for the services should be checked again before your trip.
The E-7 Pantai Sup Center Gran Canaria is also part of the SUP and surfing scene in Arguineguín. Check the latest information before booking. The artificial reef Arrecife artificial de Arguineguín offers another connection with the sea: it lies off Montaña Arena beach on a sandy seabed at a depth of 23 meters. Created in 1991, the structure consists of several dozen concrete formations and encourages various marine species to settle there. Species that may be observed include Roncador damselfish, garden eels, angel sharks, moray eels and octopuses. Which species are visible varies according to the season and conditions.
Harbor, cuisine and the Fiestas del Carmen
There are numerous restaurants serving traditional Canarian cuisine in the immediate vicinity of Puerto de Arguineguín. Freshly caught fish may also be served there almost straight from the catch. Restaurant options and services may change.
The Fiestas del Carmen take place in Arguineguín in July. During the maritime procession, local residents carry an image of the Virgin Mary by boat between coastal towns in the municipality, followed by numerous decorated boats. The festival program in Arguineguín and Playa de Mogán includes religious ceremonies, cultural activities, folk dances, concerts, sports competitions and traditional games. The program and dates may change from year to year; check the current event dates before your trip.
