Discover Lasarte-Oria
Accommodation in Lasarte-Oria
Lasarte-Oria brings together several different points of interest for planning a trip: hiking trails of varying lengths, a history shaped by the Middle Ages, and a monthly cultural program. For the trails, the combination of route length and permitted mode of travel is relevant to you; history and culture offer a different focus.
Hiking trails and modes of travel
The Andoain–Lasarte-Oria hiking trail is 7.9 km long. It runs either via the ascent to Mount Buruntza or around the mountain, and can only be traveled on foot; sturdy footwear is required. The two options therefore differ mainly in whether the route goes over or around the mountain, while the mode of travel remains the same.
The Lasarte-Oria–Urnieta trail is 3.9 km long and can be traveled on foot or by bicycle; athletic footwear is required. The Lasarte-Oria–Usurbil–Aginaga route is 4.5 km to Santuenea and 9.0 km to Aginaga. It can also be traveled on foot or by bicycle, and athletic footwear is required. At 3.9 km, the trail to Urnieta is the shortest of the routes mentioned; for the route toward Aginaga, the stated distances depend on whether Santuenea or Aginaga is the endpoint.
The Marcha Familiar de Lasarte-Oria is a hiking route for all age groups. It therefore offers another way to explore the trails in Lasarte-Oria, without a specific route length being stated.
Medieval origins and the Church of San Pedro
The first settlement of the town of Lasarte-Oria emerged toward the end of the Middle Ages under the protection of the Lasarte family’s tower house. The tower house later passed into the possession of the Oquendo family. Lasarte-Oria’s medieval origins are also associated with a settlement in the vicinity of the San Pedro hermitage.
A medieval settlement in Lasarte-Oria lay at the confluence of several routes of the Way of St. James. The Church of San Pedro marks a later point in time: it dates from the 16th century and has a rectangular floor plan and three naves of different heights. This makes it possible to distinguish chronologically between the medieval settlement and a later church building.
Cultural program and surroundings
The Manuel Lekuona Cultural Center offers an extensive monthly program of films, music, theater, dance and conferences. If you are traveling for a specific event, it is worth checking the program for the relevant month, as individual events may change.
The Hipódromo de Donostia-San Sebastián racetrack is located near Lasarte-Oria, in the Zubieta district on the border with Lasarte. It is therefore also known as the Hipódromo de Lasarte. The racetrack complements the local history and cultural offerings with a nearby point of interest known by both names.
