Talayotic culture and the town’s history
The Talayotic settlement of Sant Agustà lies within the municipality of Es Migjorn Gran and is one of the island’s most monumental sites. It comprises two talayots, up to eight Talayotic houses and seven structures with elements resembling those of taula enclosures. However, the complete structure of these buildings has not been preserved. One talayot has an inner chamber with its original oleaster-wood beam roof—a distinctive feature of the site.
The town’s origins are also associated with a specific date: they are traced to the construction of the Església de Sant Cristòfol in 1768. Another cultural occasion is the Gran Migjornale, held every two years. During the event, private homes in Es Migjorn Gran open their doors to visitors, and artists exhibit their work there.
