S'Amarador's 145-metre-long beach has fine white sand and is surrounded by a dense pine forest. Behind the beach are a dune system and a small lake at the mouth of a stream. The beach, forest and wetland each offer a different focus: you can make the beach the centre of your visit or take in the landscape on a walk.

Beach, Dunes and Wetland

S'Amarador's dune system is significant. Plants that stabilise the sand grow there, including Elymus farctus, Pancratium maritimum and Eryngium maritimum. The small lake along the stream and the estanque de s'Amarador wetland complement the dune landscape. The wetland is located in the lower reaches of the S'Amarador torrent.

There is a public car park near the beach in the S'Amarador area. A recreation area has public toilets, tables and benches. The car park and recreation area provide practical points of reference for your beach visit.

Walking Route and Nature Park

Mondragó Nature Park features the “Itinerario de S'Amarador” walking route. A nearly circular route starts at the Ca sa Muda car park on S'Amarador beach and passes through the surrounding area and wetland. This means that, alongside the beach, you can also choose a named walking route and a specific route to help plan your trip.

In the wider travel area, Mondragó Nature Park was designated a nature park in 1992. The area is also a Site of Special Natural Interest (ANEI) and part of the Natura 2000 network: as a Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA) and a Special Area of Conservation (ZEC). These protected-area designations refer to Mondragó Nature Park, not to S'Amarador alone.

Mondragó Nature Park offers free guided tours throughout the year by prior arrangement. Check availability and make arrangements for your visit with the park. People who cannot access nature because of physical or mental limitations can request a route using a Joëlette all-terrain wheelchair. You should also coordinate its availability and use with the park.

Santanyí: Market and Architectural Heritage

In the wider destination of Santanyí, the town centre offers a different focus from the beach and nature. Plaça Major is the centre of Santanyí, where festivals and a market are held. The market takes place year-round on Wednesdays and Saturdays. There are more than 150 stalls in Plaça Major and the surrounding streets, although the number may vary. They sell local produce, clothing and handicrafts. Regional products mentioned include sobrassada, oil and wine.

Sant Andreu Parish Church stands in Plaça Major beside the town hall as one of the square's two main buildings. Built from Santanyí stone, it houses a monumental Baroque organ from the Dominican convent in Palma. Construction of the church began on 25 July 1786 and took 25 years. El Roser, Santanyí's former parish church, was built in the first half of the 14th century in a transitional style between Romanesque and Gothic. During pirate raids, it repeatedly served as a refuge for the local population and was therefore fortified. La Porta Murada is a gate tower in Santanyí's 16th-century defensive walls. The town's narrow streets are also home to several art galleries and workshops.

Festivals Throughout the Year

The Sant Antoni festival in Santanyí takes place on 17 January. Traditional bonfires and barbecues are held on the eve of the festival, and animals are blessed. The Fira de Santanyí is held on the third Saturday in October and focuses on agriculture, crafts and industry. The Sant Andreu patron saint festival falls on 30 November. It includes a solemn mass, as well as social and cultural activities during the festival week. If you are planning a trip for one of these dates, check the event dates in advance.
